Watched this randomly last night on Netflix Streaming, not knowing anything about it. Incredible film, intriguing from start to finish, and I'm glad I went in completely blind.

I watched the first half of this a while ago and just got round to watching the rest. Interesting documentary, however there was a distinct change in my feelings from the mid point onwards. Once Thierry himself starts to try creating art i began to lose interest in him. He is obviously someone who has not got an original idea in his head and is merely an artist imitating art itself....but in the lowest denomination. His work has no meaning at all and he has no reasoning and beliefs on his own work. Every time someone asked him about a piece he had created you could see him really having to work to come up with an answer. I found him in the end to be merely a reality star jumping on the fast track to fame and fortune. In the end simply talentless and disposible. Money seemed to be another goal he wanted to achieve. Its funny how a lot of the other street artists (including Invader his relation) seem to want little to do with him now. Riding the coat tails of people who have put their heart and soul into something. In the end i would certainly recommend seeing this, and am sure it will win the Oscar, but i think it equally shows the true difference between art that is done for a reason and art that is done for a profit.

My wife and I streamed this about a week ago from Netflix. I started without her, but then she couldn't sleep, either, and joined me for most of it. There were several moments when all I could think about was the image of Fry from Futurama, with the caption "I see what you did there!" that appears with regularity on this forum. I enjoyed the movie quite a bit, and whether it's real or not I got a kick out of some of the artwork itself. Just seeing a black-and-white Andre the Giant on a building made my inner child smile, and my inner child wasn't concerned with how staged it might have been.

For what it's worth, I predict this to win Best Documentary (Feature), with my logic being that the art conscious voters will find a personal interest in this that they won't find in the admittedly more important other nominees. That said, I feel that Restrepo should win.

I just finished watching this movie... what a twist. Can you call it a twist? This was really good. I enjoyed it a lot. Inside Job definitely deserved to win though.

I don't remember a twist. what was the twist.

I do remember not finding the movie to be very intersting.
Banksy part of the movie was a little interesting but the Theirry sections not at all.

Overall I think the movie was pretty dull.

How the guy originally shooting the movie ended up becoming an artist himself, sorta ripping off the very people he shot.

Watched this the other day. I really liked it. A lot. Very smart, clever. As a Disney season pass holder who frequents the park, I loved watching his stunt there. I'm almost positive that MBW is a product of Banksy. He's real, but the concept behind his work is all Banky fucking with the art-hipster scene, and I think that's just genius. Photoshop a wig on Leonard Nimoy and some moron will pay $12K for it. The DVD also had some good bonus features.

I thought the bigger and better twist was that this was the movie Banksy put together from all the footage Thierry shot, and the movie was about what Thierry did to occupy himself while Banksy put together the movie. It's a mobius strip.

Just saw it last night, its was fricking Awesome!! the more I think about it the more likely it seems Mr. Brainwash is just a shallow alter-ego of Banksy performed by Thierry. I mean that's what Banksy is all about challenging our views and putting our perspectives upside down.
Besides what a better way to prove the public's gullibility on what's considered good art than to create a fake artist and sell it to public as the real deal. Its like selling people their own fat

I've had this movie tucked away in the Netflix Instant queue for a while, and finally got around to watching it last night. Wow ... I'm glad I knew nothing about the movie, since it really takes you on a bit of a ride. MBW's art really is awful, isn't it :lol: And if this is a hoax, it's the most dedicated hoax of all-time since Thierry Guetta's life is pretty well documented (in the years before and after this movie's creation). Regardless, the movie is fascinating and says some interesting things about the art world.

So a new clue was revealed about Banksy’s identity then ... he was in the room. I don’t buy the video about “years ago I built a shredder into a frame in case this painting was ever auctioned off”. The whole thing was a recent creation just for this purpose. The seller was an agent of his and he was there to remotely activate the mechanism.

He didn’t destroy a piece of artwork; he created a new one. Notice the painting was not entirely shredded ... now the whole piece is art.

The shredder seen in the clip that banksey was making would do much more damage then the straight cuts that we see in the art.
