Re: Is Gene Hackman retired?

Hackman have grandkids?
I have this theory that older, well established, high salary actors will do a movie, even a crappy horror sequel, just to set the grandkids up so they never will have to worry about money.

"Hey dad, you're a grandpa again"

"Shit. Now I have to do another movie"

Calls his agent

"Find me something for an easy $10 million. Yeah, another grandkid."

But it's good that they work past 65, otherwise you'll either have movies/shows where the universe doesn't have any elderly people - or we'll keep seeing actors under 65 with massive makeup and SFX to make they look much older.

And it's not like we still don't get great performances. Tony Hopkins won the Oscar this year.

While I was and remain disappointed that he just walked away in 2004, Hackman worked A LOT. Maybe he was just done. More power to him. I'm just glad he did Tenenbaums before he left, even if he didn't really want to.

I don't think that is true anymore.

If you are wealthy, you can retire way before 65. While some wealthy people keep working just because they have status and love what they are doing.

Seems like most of the regular people I am aware of keep working if they can because they still need the income.

Although that photo of him on Twitter is unfortunately no longer available, I was thinking how I wouldn't even recognize him now if I saw him in public. His voice is probably very different too. But maybe if I heard him spoke, the inflection would suddenly flip on the recognition switch and I would realize who it is.

I was driving north from Santa Fe recently, and someone pointed to the entrance to a neighborhood and said, "Gene Hackman lives there."

My mom and her husband used to live in a house in Beverly Hills that Gene Hackman used to live in before (I think he had rented it and never owned it). They had left behind an ornately pained step stool that has "Gene & Shelly" painted on it. My mom took it and it's still in her kitchen (in NV) today.

Edit : What's weird is I have NO IDEA who Shelley is. It's not his first or his second wife. I texted my mother just to confirm and yeah I was right about the name. Posiden Adventure reunion?

Good thing Shelley Winters has passed, lest she click on this thread and discover how little Gene thought of her gift.

I barley recognized him, he looks nothing like Bridget Fonda.

Wow, unrecognizable. He looks good for 92, if a scoche emaciated.

Re: Is Gene Hackman retired?

I don't know, he's bald and obviously much thinner, but that classic Gene Hackman glimmer in his eyes shines right through.

I know you can't do much more than draw conclusions from a single photo, but the fact that he's upright with a bright, seemingly genuine smile, makes me pretty happy.

Re: Is Gene Hackman retired?

Not many people make it to his age. The fact that he's enjoying life in a small town away from Hollywood and it's stress is great for him and probably added more years to his life.

Re: Is Gene Hackman retired?

He obviously looks older and thinner but overall healthy. Every time this thread gets bumped I get nervous. I’m glad it’s a “good” update.

Well, I'll be the one to say it. That's some serious shrunken head action going on there.

Looks like an odd perspective camera angle. From above and he is slightly behind the other two.

Re: Is Gene Hackman retired?

92? Wow. That is a long beautiful and enriched life he's having. I will always remember him for his evil Lex Luthor character. His laughter and smile to me stands out the most. What a unique and charismatic actor with such a great screen presence. There won't be another like him with such energy when he crosses the gates of heaven.

Re: Is Gene Hackman retired?

The NY Post was apparently stalking Gene Hackman and photos/videos of him went viral.

I love the official Blumhouse X account’s response to this.

What's in his left hand? Is that a pack of smokes?

EDIT: According to the twitter thread, it's an apple pie snack.
