Re: Super 8 (produced by JJ Abrams)
Snagged two preview passes from Gofobo.com last night, good for a screening on Tuesday night (7 June). Whether we'll be able to attend is anyone's guess (thank you, stupid guts), but I'm hopeful we can make it. This is my pick to be the sleeper hit of the summer, especially with a calendar dominated by sequels and comic book adaptations of well-known characters.

San Diego members ...
FREE early screening on Wednesday, June 8th at 10:00pm at the Regal Horton Plaza (475 Horton Plaza) in San Diego. There will be free popcorn and soda, and a chance to win a Super 8 prize pack! To RSVP, please go to Super8Secret.com and enter the password #MINT (although MINT might work as well). No purchase is necessary. |
Re: Super 8 (produced by JJ Abrams)
Sadly, we're not gonna make it to the free screening tonight. Between the 7:30 start time, the need to leave early to compete with others to redeem our passes for tickets and the fact it's not at a theater all that close to us, it's just too hard tonight with me feeling loopy and my wife needing to get up early tomorrow. We are, however, going to attempt to catch an earlier showing at a closer theater of another movie so the night won't be a complete loss as we both really wanted to get to this tonight. Maybe this weekend!

As of right now, passes (for tomorrow?) are still available for Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, and Orlando:

Re: Super 8 (produced by JJ Abrams)
I read a review where they said this is more like Batteries Not Included than Goonies.

Re: Super 8 (produced by JJ Abrams)
I have to ask, has things really gone down the tubes that movies are being praised simply because it completely apes the better movies of two decades ago? Every review basically says how much it copies the older Spielberg films wholesale, and everyone's excited for that reason. I can't say I'm not the same way, I love those movies and I want to see this one for the same reasons as everyone else so I'm not condemning it at all. It just seemed odd to me that we're all excited for movie taking two steps back instead of forging ahead with something new.

Re: Super 8 (produced by JJ Abrams)
I don't know, but I like the APs review:
All you're left with is ... story. And strong performances. And well-developed characters. And a believable emotional arc. And genuine thrills. |

@edgarwright Had a blast at the Super 8 premiere. See it large & loud on the best screen you can this weekend. Watch all the end credits. Very enjoyable. |
Re: Super 8 (produced by JJ Abrams)
I'm going to go see this on Saturday, really excited. Will be the first movie I've seen in theaters in months. I'm glad Wright Tweeted that, otherwise I might've left.

Re: Super 8 (produced by JJ Abrams)
Anyone else find it a little funny that a collaboration between two big name movie producers / directors on a summer sci-fi flick only had a $45m budget to work with?

I'd like to sneak in a Rocket Poppeteer. I went to 7-11 the other day and had one. Fucking tasty. Reminded me of my youth big time.
