The Expendables may not make the most money this summer, but I guarantee it will lead all movies in unplanned pregnancies.

I think Dinner for Schmucks is going to be a dark horse and maybe make over $120 to $150 million. It's got Carell and Rudd in it, whom have been pulling good numbers at the box office, plus Zach Galifianakis is in it, so it could be this years Hangover type hit.

Wow, I'm just not excited for this summer at all. Already seen Iron Man 2 which I dug, but other than that I'd say Inception, Scott Pilgrim and Toy Story 3 with my son are the only must-sees. MAYBE A-Team and Expendables depending on reviews. Not a lot else that jazzes me.

Toy Story 3 as the number one film of the summer.
Iron Man 2 as the number two film of the summer.
Prince of Persia is the flop of the summer.

Re: Summer 2010 Box Office Predictions & Discussion Thread
This Summer definitely feels a little light on the blockbusters, especially when, in 2 years, we'll get Batman 3, new Spider-man, The Avengers, and Star Trek 2.
For this Summer, I expect Iron Man 2, Toy Story 3, and Shrek 4 to all pass or reach $300 million. I think The Other Guys could be a nice big hit in August and pull in Superbad type numbers.
Here's my guesses:
1. Iron Man 2: $425 million (this will open HUGE, like $150 million HUGE. I think it'll have strong legs like the original)
2. Shrek 4: $350 million
3. Toy Story 3: $300 million
4. Twilight 3: $275 million
5. Inception: $250 million (I'll never bet against Leo and Nolan)
6. Sex and the City 2: $180 million
7. Grown Ups: $140 million
8. The Other Guys: $135 million
9. Predators: $130 million (I think this will open to $50 mil and hold fairly well. Not alot of action this Summer)
10. Robin Hood: $125 million (could also be a bomb or a decent hit. I'll go with the latter.)
I also think Prince of Persia will bomb. Knight and Day could be a nice surprise hit. I'm not sure how Salt will do. The buzz on MacGruber is good, but I think that one could go either way.

I know it would be stupid to bet against a kids movie in 3D, but I don't know a single person, young or old, who is willing to sit through another Shrek after seeing the last movie.

Re: Summer 2010 Box Office Predictions & Discussion Thread
Well, so far, so not good.
I'm going to be $100 million over for both Iron Man 2 and Shrek 4. This Summer's final totals is going to be very low with nothing really dominating. Sort of like in '07 when Spider-man 3 led the year with $336 million.
I'm starting to wonder if anything this year will top Alice in Wonderland's $333 mil take. Harry Potter comes out in November, but most of those movies top out around $300 mil. I guess Toy Story 3 now has the best chance. Part 2's inflation adjusted gross is $380 mil.
Inception's previews make it look stronger and stronger to being a big hit. But I still capped it at $250 mil. The only one I was close on was Robin Hood, but I was a bit high at $125m. Prince of Persia certainly underperformed for a film with a $200 mil budget.
I still think The Other Guys will be a nice hit for August and after seeing the 2nd trailer for Dinner for Schmucks, I also think it can hit the $100+ mil mark.

Re: Summer 2010 Box Office Predictions & Discussion Thread
The New York Times has an article today on the poor summer boxoffice, entitled "Toy Story 3 to the Rescue?" Here's the link:
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/14/bu...ef=todayspaper
It includes this curious paragraph:
"For Will Ferrell (“The Other Guys”), Julia Roberts (“Eat, Pray, Love”), Michael Cera (“Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”) and Sylvester Stallone (“The Expendables”), the summer’s challenge is not so much to be a hit as simply not to flop again."
So I ask, in what universe does Michael Cera deserve to be mentioned alongside Ferrell, Roberts and Stallone?
