I wonder if we'll get a nod to the original's hilariously obvious smashed-Porche edit.

I think he's a great action actor. Nothing much out of that but he's damn fine in action. He does have Charisma and you can believe a man of this size could do the things he did. Even lifting that log in Commando. Why is Commando still badass today? Cuz it's Arnold kicking all kinds of ass. It's a awesome action genre flick.

Like others here have said. Take the basis of the story and roll with the premise they want that character to have but DON'T call it Commando.

Re: David Ayer to write and direct Commando reboot

I doubt that COMMANDO would have worked without Arnold. It's a silly movie and a silly premise, but damned if he doesn't make it work. He's like a superhero in it.

I wouldn't mind a remake, as long as it wasn't silly. And as long as you got an action star who could pull it off. But I don't think there really are any like that today. I like Jason Statham a lot in the CRANK and TRANSPORTER films, but I don't know about something like this. What about Daniel Craig? He probably wouldn't do it.

I mind them remaking classics, but I don't mind remaking more formulaic stuff like this. I love LONG KISS GOODNIGHT, but it's a film I'd happily see any remake of as long as they got the right actress for it. Geena Davis is just fine in the original, but it's a part I'd like to see other actresses do as well, esp. Angelina Jolie before she gets too old for it. (SALT sounds vaguely similar, so I may get an approximation of my wish after all.) In the same way, a remake of COMMANDO would be a suitable vehicle for the next charismatic action star. Provided one exists.

Arnie did alright with comedy, of course I'm thinking of "Last Action Hero" when I say that.

I hold a special place for LAH:

It's Ah-nuld making fun of his action movies/himself.
I could relate to the kid in the movie, Ah-nuld is my childhood action hero.

But even I admit that movie just falls apart in the 3rd act. There were good bits, but the "real world" stuff just sucked all the fun out of the "movie world" stuff.

I think that today's studio executives spend all day watching Cinemax, HBO, Starz, Showtime and then when they something like Commando, which has been running almost non-stop the past month on Cinemax, shows up, they go boom! Here's a movie we need to remake. Right now, I watching the Golden Child. The odds are 10-1 that this is announced by the end of May to be remade, but with Will Smith's kid and Tracy Morgan as the lead.

I have a strange feeling they'll be hiring Sam Worthington for this one.

Re: David Ayer to write and direct Commando reboot

The reason Commando worked is that Arnold was able to perform the kick-ass flawlessly, but also was intelligent enough to know that the movie was silly, and winked at the audience. It's not an easy balance to maintain.

It's being suggested for a remake because there are enough people who will go to the retread because they liked the original. Everyone loves a guaranteed market.

Exactly my thoughts. I love this movie, but not because it has some incredible story worth repeating. The movie works because it is pure unfiltered Schwarzenegger and the movie knows exactly how to ride on his back. No Arnold, no point.

Now they can take the plot and change it up a bit to make it better story but to literally remake it and can it Commando. Don't do that. Call it something thing else and change it up to be realisticish. Commando is still fucking huge today.

Patton Oswalt is John Matrix in Commando: The Thickening. Come on, who wouldn't want to see it?

Who will they get to play Bennett?

"John, I'm not going to shoot you between the eyes. I'm going to shoot you between the balls."
