If I remember correctly, the reviews for this were not terribly kind.

Yeah the reviews weren't exactly stellar across the board, but it did get some good ones.
Anxiously awaiting this film.

re: Enter the Void--Gaspar Noé

I wonder if this will be like Noe's other two outings in that were connected, albeit indirectly.

Spoiler:
The main character from I Stand Alone is the first one to appear on screen in Irreversible. From what he speaks about, it is obvious it his him. We get a bit of a cap on what happened after the previous movie and the new one begins with its own narrative.

While both movies were disturbing to watch, their connection made each other worthwhile.

Given that Noe's films are the cinematic equivalent of getting kicked in the balls for two hours, I am totally unsurprised. Irreversible only has 55% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes (45% for top criticis).

I'm REALLY looking forward to this one. And that trailer looks fantastic.

Noe is an extremely divisive filmmaker, so word of mouth really doesn't matter to me.

Irreversible is only 90 minutes.
This film is 155 minutes.

The Butcher isn't in this one, nor are any of the characters from Irreversible mentioned.

this
Also this was in a user review on imdb that was also posted in the 'disturbing movies' thread
Spoiler:
If the following things disturb you, then you should probably avoid this film: strobe lights, drug use, shaky hand-held cameras, graphic sexuality, sperm, spinning cameras, psychedelic imagery, blood, gay sex, abortion, breastfeeding or a graphic auto wreck...........................

re: Enter the Void--Gaspar Noé

I was browsing the Landmark theater chain website and it looks like this will be playing in LA on Sept 24 and 25 at midnight. My guess is that it will be shown at the major arthouse theaters at or around that time, and prob debut on demand a few weeks before hand

I hate the fact that RCN here in the District doesn't carry IFC on demand - fuckers! they also had the balls to drop HDNet and HDNet movies. Sorry I had to rant there.

re: Enter the Void--Gaspar Noé

Irreversible and I Stand Alone were incredible pieces of filmmaking. This looks to have more of Noe's distinctly unique visual/sonic flourishes... for those elements alone my ass will be in the theater.
