I still enjoy the first one. It's a big popcorn movie that is just good fun. It's not smart, it's not all that clever, but it is fun. I like the characters most of all.

The new one looks better than I expected.

I miss practical effects and real fire. I've already seen the full CG world destruction time and time again. The one here just reminded me of the one from Knowing: https://youtu.be/CkC6OKBYVLI?t=2m44s

I pre-ordered the new ID4 2-disc BD. Hope it comes with some movie cash to see the sequel.

But regardless, I still plan to see this. Opens a few days after I return from vacation.

we never saw him die did we? it has been years since I've seen ID4, but I seem to remember he got possessed by the aliens in that room, but we never saw him after that.

That "nerd scientist" was played by Brent Spine who also played Data on Star Trek: The Next Generation.

I'm not sure about this movie. The trailer is waaaaay serious while the original was serious but with plenty of light-hearted and laugh-out-loud moments.
