Bigelow though, she's hot. And she directed Point Break.
And from now on, every release of Near Dark will say "From Academy Award Winner, Kathryn Bigelow", lol.

I remember years when half the acting and directing nominees wouldn't even show up. At some point in the 1990s, it became obligatory for EVERY nominee to attend the ceremony. Wonder why that shift occurred.

I'm just glad that Avatar didn't win any of the major awards. I loved Hurt Locker and I'm happy to see it get recognized.

Well, thank God Avatar didn't win. Overrated as hell, and there were 2 billion reasons as to why it was even up there. The problem is, that was the only reason it was up there. Enjoyable film, but nowhere near the caliber of film it's being made out to be. Then again, neither was Titanic.
The Academy better learn that the biggest problem with their show is it's length. There is absolutely no reason this show should last three and a half to four hours. It could be done it two hours and be much better.

In fact, I'd say it's pretty easily one of the most re-watchable of the nominees. Along with "Up" and "A Serious Man", it's the only one I've felt compelled to re-watch - and it holds up exceptionally well on repeat viewings.

Good show but they need to shorten those nomination clips next year. I think they should still have the actual songs performed but show it a half hour before the Oscars air instead of that pre show fashion shit.

The riveting tension is what makes it interesting to watch the first time, but on a second viewing, not so much.

The Hurt Locker held up well, for me anyway, on second viewing. I was surprised by that. It's just a taut, well made film.

Character arcs is what makes movies re-watchable, THL just doesn't have it as much of most of the other nominees this year.

I liked the way they had their contemporaries give their own speech about each nominee, but either do that or the normal listing of the nominees, but not both. That's why it ran long.

I thought the show was pretty good, by their usual standards.
Until, that is, they got to the acting awards, and it slowed to a CRAWL so they could talk about the nominees. Please don't do that next year. There had been little filler up to that point - just a dance troupe thing went on a little too long, and the stupid "comedy" bit they have to do every year (this time with Ben Stiller). I guess I should have known they were saving time for a reason. There's no need to trot out five people to give little speeches. It didn't even save time for the presenter, who still read the names before announcing the winner.
Oh, and the obits reel kind of sucked. I don't mind having someone sing, but lose the ADD multi-clip presentation, and make it full screen from the beginning (couldn't even read Patrick Swayze's name). And, they left out Henry Gibson!
As for the winners, for the most part I thought they were deserving. I don't remember any big "Crash wins." However, I haven't seen many of the lead acting nominated performances, so I guess I'm not upset about Bullock winning - yet.

- Cut the actors and actresses on stage at the very beginning,
- cut the stupid best score/random dancing and just introduce that award normally
- cut the personal best actor and best actress introductions
- Give EVERY award winner the same amount of speech time
- Go back to 5 best picture nominees (which would get rid of 5 montages during the show)
Easily back to a 3 hour show.
If needed, fill Tom Hanks in for every 3rd or 4th award or some other presenter who has enough stature and is comfortable enough not to do a "I'm going to try to be funny for 30-60sec" shtick.

I just mainly watched to make sure Waltz won......but I have a question; why did he win for best SUPPORTING actor??? Who was the "ACTOR" in IB cause it sure as hell wasn't Brad Pitt and didn't Waltz have the most screen time??
