Actually, Cutter's Way is even more like a prequel to Lebowski with Bridges playing a laid back womanizer who gets reluctantly involved in a murder investigation instigated by his bitter and borderline crazy Vietnam vet buddy (John Heard) who becomes obsessed with catching the killer.

It's pretty obvious the Coen Brothers drew quite a bit of inspiration from Cutter's Way (which plays like a serious version of Lebowski) though they've never openly admitted it.

Tron is my favorite movie by him, but I feel his performance in Starman is better.

Shucks, Tron is one of my favorite sci-fi movies of all time...and favorite video games too.

Absolutely. Add on THE LAST PICTURE SHOW and STAY HUNGRY, and we're talking about a great run of work in the early 70's by Mr. Bridges. He has long been one of my favorite actors from that era - and easily the most under appreciated. It will be great to see him finally win that Oscar, as I assume he will this year.

Oops, I completely forgot to include the film that inspired me to do the post in the first place: THE LAST AMERICAN HERO (1973), directed by Lamont Johnson, in which Bridges plays real-life stock car racer/moonshiner Junior Johnson. Valerie Perrine is real cute as Miss Georgia Peach Pit or something and Gary Busey plays Bridges' brother. I haven't seen it since the 1970s, but I remember seeing it more than once back then and liking it a lot. One line I liked that Bridges delivered to one of his rivals was "Don't let your mouth write checks your ass can't cash." Jim Croce songs, including "I've Got a Name," fill the soundtrack, always a good thing in my book.

Best performance - The Dude.

Best film - Fearless or The Door in the Floor

The Dude dominates for a reason; I think it's the most natural role I've seen him play.

Starman is a close second.

Come on guys...I thought you were supposed to be "movie people". THE FABULOUS BAKER BOYS is by far Bridges best performance as an actor. Most of his other stuff isn't very deep or introspective - just Bridges having fun, but not really going deep into a character the way a great actor can.

I like that film.

Art Lund, the actor who plays his father owns the film IMO. A lot of talent involved in the cast too.

Favorite does not equal best.

Let me echo that any of you plebes who voted for Lebowski clearly haven't seen all of his other films, or you would have voted for everything else.

Yes, his nude (except for Goofy mask) performance while chasing an equally nude (but no Goofy-mask-wearing) Patti D'Arbanville in Rancho Deluxe was certainly more memorable.

I haven't seen all but have seen several of his other works and many are great. But Lebowski is one of my top 10 favorite films of all time.

It shares that space with movies like The Godfather, Dances with Wolves, Being John Malkovich, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Unforgiven, Bottle Rocket, The Royal Tennenbaums, A Few Good Men, and Apocalypse Now.

And here I thought I was laying that on too thick. ;)

I love him in a lot of stuff and Lebowski is my favorite.
