With Jeff Bridges closing in on a possible Oscar night victory for Best Actor, thought I'd see which performance from his lengthy career is considered his best/most favored.

The Fabulous Baker Boys by far. Wonderful movie about brotherhood staring two real life brothers.

Yeah, this thread should have read "BESIDES the Dude....what is your favorite Jeff Bridges performance".

The man has quite an impressive body of work. I'd like to add to that list some films/performances not mentioned:

"Seabiscuit", "Nadine", "The Morning After", "Texasville", "Rancho Deluxe" and "White Squall". Give this man an Oscar already!

I thought Starman would get more love.

The Dude is my favorite, but he was one creepy bastard in The Vanishing.

If you want to see real creepiness, do yourself a favor and rent the original.

Not to mention it had the balls to stay true to itself and not cop out with a BS Hollywood ending.

I chose The Fisher King. While Lebowski was a "flashier" role, he did much more impressive work grounding Gilliam's film in real human emotion.

Runners up would be Cutter's Way and The Last Picture Show.

I refused to see the Hollywood remake. It just doesn't exist to me.
