Actually, I just came back to check on my comment to make sure the post wasn't another attempt by Groucho to catch someone off guard. Thanks for being an authentic mistake!

Looks excellent. I'd lost track of who was in this, so I was very pleased to see Viggo, Fassbender and Cassel.

Looks good but I'm a little underwhelmed by the trailer.

Promising cast, underwhelming trailer. Although in Cronenberg's defense, some of his other trailers have been very ho-hum.

Yeah, the trailer isn't some drama pumping kind of thing..but the premise is VERY interesting...then add the cast..and well...of course having Cronenberg direct it makes it sound like a very promising film..but I must say...all his Mortensen films have had kind of ho hum trailers...maybe not Eastern Promises...

I love A History of Violence and Eastern Promises but this looks more like a Joe Wright directed erotic thriller -- which isn't a bad thing. Just not what I expected.

It's Cronenberg. When was the last time he made a movie that wasn't at the very least interesting?

Knightly first billing over Viggo and Fassbender? That ain't right. Is her role really the central one?

Maybe not, but she is the highest paid.
Marlon Brando had 15 minutes of screentime in Superman and he got top billing.

top billing ≠ lead actor

Yea, but Viggo Mortensen is not some unknown. He's well-established.

I believe Knightly and Fassbender are the two leads of the film with Mortensen in a pivotal, but ultimately supporting role.

I too love A History of Violence but was underwhelmed by Eastern Promises. Although not a stellar trailer (more a teaser really), this film intruiges me. I'm in.

I loved both, but IMO I thought Eastern Promises was the better film.

Yeah....Eastern Promises was the better film...my only major issue w/ it is Cassel's character at the end...otherwise..really solid.

I found Eastern Promises dull and predictable. And some of the directing choices (like the guy essentially posing for the camera when his throat was cut) cheesey (although I did like the straighforward nature of the bath house fight). The acting is the sole reason I kept watching.

Eastern Promises was alright but a tad too ordinary, the ending was really cheesy.

That trailer doesn't do anything for me, but I'm yet to see a Cronenberg film that I actively disliked.

I didn't find it predictable but yeah a bit dull. I think A History of Violence is the superior movie. I just love that film.

My problem with Eastern Promises was the
Spoiler:
the part where we find out he's an undercover cop. It undermined the character and I thought it totally came out of left field. The film would've been better without it.

Cronenberg directing it means I'm seeing it. Fassbender as Jung also means I'm seeing it.

It's funny that the part that you spoilered is exactly what I found far too predictable. But, yes, it totally undermines his character and leads to a very cheesy ending.

I absolutely love A History of Violence. It's a shame I don't have it on BD but all the bad reviews about its PQ kept me away.

Slight difference in the trailer..but it's our US official.
