Yeah, especially recently he's said that a lot about retiring at 60, writing books, etc.

I'll have to check out the transcript. It appears to have more material than the video, which I thought was really really brief for a sit down with this kind of talent. Peter Jackson is the Incredible Shrinking Man... ???!!

If Tarantino retires from film-making when he's sixty, then he's only got thirteen more years of film-making. What is that for him, two or three more movies? Jeez...
What's his first book going to be, that Kill Bill novel he was going to do five years ago?

I think they just rounded up whom they thought were the favorites for Best Director (and they probably still are, minus Jackson). I doubt that Tarantino himself decided to invite Daniels.

When you take into consideration that Cameron was the first person whose opinions Bigelow sought regarding the script for "The Hurt Locker", I'd have to say yes.

Not long after Cameron finished shooting “Terminator 2,” he got divorced from his wife at the time, the director Kathryn Bigelow. (They are still friends: Bigelow says that when she got the finished script for “The Hurt Locker,” her latest film, Cameron was the first person whose opinion she sought out.)

Yeah, one of Bigelow's films a few years after they divorced, "Strange Days" was written and produced by Cameron.
Oddly, I'd also say it's one of Cameron's most solid original pieces of writing.
