Sorcerer's Apprentice

Spoiler:
Walt Disney Studios, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Jon Turteltaub, the creators of the National Treasure franchise, present The Sorcerer's Apprentice -- an innovative and epic romantic comedy adventure about a sorcerer and his hapless apprentice who are swept into the center of an ancient conflict between good and evil.

Balthazar Blake (Nicolas Cage) is a master sorcerer in modern-day Manhattan trying to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina). Balthazar can't do it alone, so he recruits Dave Stutler (Jay Baruchel), a seemingly average guy who demonstrates hidden potential, as his reluctant protégé. The sorcerer gives his unwilling accomplice a crash course in the art and science of magic, and together, these unlikely partners work to stop the forces of darkness. It'll take all the courage Dave can muster to survive his training, save the city and get the girl as he becomes The Sorcerer's Apprentice.

I hadn't heard of this until now, looks like decent family fare. I noticed that they managed to squeak the water-carrying brooms in there -- but blink and you'll miss it.

Re: Sorcerer's Apprentice

Out of curiosity, why is the description spoilerized? Is someone going to open up a thread dedicated to a specific movie but insist upon not knowing ANYTHING about it?

Looks generic and cliched at best... but Nic Cage playing diabolical is intriguing.

What is this exactly? Why not call it Mediocrity: The Motion Picture. I love how they put Jon Turteltaub's name like anyone knows who this hack is. Hey Jon, you're no Spielberg or even a Roland Emmerich.

Wow, I was totally diggin' that trailer until Nick Cage was revealed. To be honest it still looks very cool.

Like a hardcore Harry Potter.

I like the effects but am not really a fan of Cage.

Him?

Also, Jerry Bruckheimer has been castrated. Don Simpson's coke-addled ghost would probably attack him.

I never thought I'd see a magic "go go gadget" car.

Watching the trailer just made me wish that a studio would do a kick-ass, big-budget version of the Dresden Files.

For his sake, Cage needs a hit movie and more money.

Re: Sorcerer's Apprentice

I've enjoyed a lot of Cage's films, but I agree with Giantrobo. As soon as I popped up my interest went down. He just doesn't seem like a good fit for this. It's as if it's obvious he's involved because of producers and directors. I'd rather he do a National Treasure 3 - assuming it's more along the lines of 1 than 2; not that 2 was bad, but just not as good as 1.

Re: Sorcerer's Apprentice

Just saw this trailer and the special effects were pretty impressive. I'll see this movie for that alone...and of course Jay Baruchel’s role!

Nicolas Cage is on a role, I was already planning on seeing his new flick, Kick-Ass..good to see he's still got it after all these years in the business! He is one of those actors you can always count on.

Re: Sorcerer's Apprentice

My wife and I were in New York last summer for four days, and we saw some of SA being filmed at night. A sequence at the fountain at Bowling Green park by the old U.S. Customs House. Second unit stuff it looked like, with Jay Baruchel and a girl I didn't recognize who had long dark hair and was costumed in a medieval gown.

We watched them for maybe an hour while they did two or three takes. I shot some pics and video of their activity, then we walked down to the ferry station to take the ferry back to Staten Island.

Re: Sorcerer's Apprentice

Looks like crap.. as does Bruckheimer's other Prince of Persia flick. Bruckheimer needs to make another Bad Boys movie.

That's her, and that's where we saw them shooting.

Ah fernsita, is there any bad movie you don't like or aren't interested in seeing? Or are you just toying with us?
