Re: PT Anderson's next film is MASTER
I was "in" as soon as I heard PTA was making another film. The teaser just makes me more anxious to watch it.
I'm not a fan of Joaquin Phoenix, but PTA always draws out great performances from his actors. He can cast a clump of shit and it'll give a strong performance (ie. Adam Sandler).

I'd say Punch-Drunk Love is the first movie where he stopped directly copying other directors and began to do his own thing, albeit while still influenced by previous filmmakers. There Will Be Blood was a huge leap forward for him, though.

PDL to me is very French New Wave.

PDL is very French New Wave, TWBB is very Kubrick. But they both feel like PTA movies.
And he has made a bad film. A terrible film, in fact: Magnolia.

If this movie is really about what it's rumored to be about, expect a lot of cast and crew members to die under mysterious circumstances over the next year or so.

This should be awesome in all its 70 mm glory. Or is it 65 mm?

I have high hopes for PT's movies because the genius that is Boogie Nights and the experience that was Punch Drunk Love. However, I always realize that they could end up like Hard Eight (boring as fuck) or like Magnolia (long and boring as fuck).

It is quite simply one of my favorite movies of all time. Seen it 14 or 15 times at least, which is a lot for me.
Looking forward to The Master so much. I wish we'd gotten to see more of the main cast in the teaser.

I had no idea he shot the whole thing in 65mm/70mm. I'm not sure that there's even a local theatre here that can project, let alone get a 70mm print.
I loved Magnolia when I was in my late teens / early 20's. I haven't watched in in many many years, though. Always hated Boogie Nights. Didn't like Punch-Drunk Love at first, but watched it again last year and appreciated it a lot more. There Will Be Blood was fantastic.

I love PTA's work by and large and would argue that as magnificently directed as There Will Be Blood is, it benefited greatly from a nearly supernatural performance by Daniel Day Lewis. Through him, Daniel Plainview is one of the most fascinating characters that will ever appear in film.
And Joaquin was great in that clip. He's quietly become one of my favorite actors.

Well, that certainly was an... interesting teaser. But I generally love Anderson's work, so there's no question I'll be seeing this.
