How is Frenzy? I never saw it, but heard it was his last and not very good.

I think Family Plot was his last (and it's not very good IMO). I liked Frenzy, but I wouldn't consider it one of his best films.

Favorite: Rear Window, Rope, Strangers on a Train, Marnie (I'll never understand why so many don't like this one...I thought it was fantastic and classic Hitchcock on every level...

Least favorite: I don't know why, but i find Vertigo absolutely and completely boring....didn't much care for Rebecca either.

I'm with you on Vertigo. Very pretty to watch, and I love Gen. Stewart as much as the next guy, but this film could have had at least 40 minutes trimmed out. The whole forest scenes put me to sleep.

Favorite: Too hard to pick just one, but "Vertigo", "Rear Window" and "Notorious" are all at the top.

Least Favorite: There are a couple I haven't seen like "Under Capricorn" and I'm sure there are at least two or three more. Of the ones I've seen I'd definitely say "Topaz". Just doesn't feel like Hitch to me, for some reason.

Hitchcock only directed the 1935 version of The Thirty-Nine Steps.

Love 'em all...but I'll say.

Fav = North By Northwest

Can pop it in any time, and often use it to introduce folks to Hitchcock. Light, funny, but shows his style of suspense.

Least=Vertigo

A good flm to be sure, but not one I find myself watching much. Appreciate it and such, but not my "favorite."

The ones I've seen:

Rope
North by Northwest
Lifeboat
Vertigo
Rear Window
The Birds
Saboteur
Psycho
Notorious

I liked all of them quite a bit, but North by Northwest was probably my favorite.

Hard to pick a favorite, but if I had to go with one I'd go with The Birds, followed closely by Psycho, Vertigo, and Rear Window.

Least favorite is Topaz

Rear Window is by far my favorite (one of my top 5 films of all time)
Rebecca
Psycho
North by Northwest

I don't think Hithcock made a bad film. I still have quite a few of his left to see, but of the dozen or so films i've seen thus far, I've liked them all to some degree.

Notorious is pretty boring IMO. Good film, just boring, so i'd say that or 39 steps is my least favorite. But i would still watch either one over again (i own both CC's). The first hour or so of Vertigo is very slow,but the rest of the films definitely makes up for it! STill got quite a few of his films to go though!

Ooh, good thread. I was all set to spit out Vertigo for my favorite thread. But that's the problem with Hitchcock - he's just too brilliant to pick one. How do you compare the roller coaster of North by Northwest to something smaller and more pessimistic, yet equally entertaining, like Shadow of a Doubt? Even his clunkier stuff, like Stage Fright, tends to have a couple of good ideas and makes for some good entertainment. But I definitely think my least favorite was The Wrong Man. Since he was saddled with a true story, and determined to keep it as realistic as possible, Hitch didn't seem able to have any fun. Plus the story probably seemed like a good idea on paper, but wasn't very cinematic - you watch Henry Fonda and his lawyer bang their heads against the wall for 2 hours, and then a totally unrelated deus ex machina at the end resolves the whole thing instantly. I always felt kinda cheated with that one.

Your Favorite Hitchcock Film

I'm trying to get idea for which to watch next. Mine would have to be Dial M for Murder. To this day, one of the most engaging and intelligent scripts that's ever been written for the screen. I'd love it if you explain your reasoning for liking your selection so much. =)
