This is always a tough question. There are a few movies that I consider great but, for various reasons, I don't watch too often. Then there are two movies that I'll watch at anytime and they always make me feel good. The first is Superbad. Lots of laughs and plenty of nostalgia since it reminds me of my high school days more than any other high school comedy.
But I'll have to go with a movie that I can watch whenever, a movie with a great script and a great concept and very well executed.

I'm amazed at the outpouring of support of Almost Famous, which is my number one of the decade. Close behind would be Memento. Serious thought would have to go into rounding out a top 10.

^Almost Famous was simply amazing when i first saw it in theaters. still amazing after a half-dozen or so viewings.

From a quick skim of the thread, I am the first to mention what I think is my favorite from the decade. I'm not surprised.
I don't know if it is really my favorite of the decade or not but it is the only film I have seen in the past few years that I have immediately and assertively inserted in my mental "favorite films" list.

Picking a favorite movie from the past decade is actually harder than I thought it would be. So much has changed in my own taste in this time frame that I haven't necessarily re-visited those 2001-2004 films very often. If I were to pick one film to represent the decade, though, I think it would have to be Shaun of the Dead. I think it has the best reflection of the decade's tone. It explores an anxious time, but does so hopefully; it exists somewhere between self-aware and self-parody; it strangely manages to explore the humanity of relationships while disposing of zombies. I laughed throughout most of the film, but there were some moments that I found genuinely emotional. Plus, it's one of those rare films that becomes addictive and seems to improve with subsequent viewings.
