Bay's action is visual spectacular...sure. But it lacks power of the blow. It lacks an oomph factor. True Lies for example had action that made you feel the hit (if you get my meaning). Bay can't sell the impact. He can sell the shit out of the ramp up and the hit itself. But not the impact from the hit.

Bay knows how to milk an explosion and a sweeping camera move. He's rather pedestrian when it comes to an actual fight. It's often fun, sometimes tiring, but never visceral. There's never a sense of danger.

@Rocshemp...funny how when you put up the TF3 title it gave a :D right in the middle. Accidental I'm sure...or sly..somehow.

Accidental, I must admit. I even fixed the post just now.

T2 was nearly 20 years ago and wasn't hard boiled about 15 years ago.

So, what you are saying is that no recent movie in your memory is nearly as amazing as the action in Transformers 3?

TERMINATOR 2 was 1991 (20 years ago) and HARD-BOILED was 1992, 19 years ago.

I was fine with it, but I know exactly what you mean. This is how I feel about the T-rex attack on the trailer in The Lost World. I was just ready for that sequence to be over, but Spielberg kept it going. I bet he's to blame for this building sequence going so long, too. Now that I think about it, he's probably responsible for the economy taking so long to recover. Bastard.

I blind purchased this on Blu-ray after missing it in theaters, and found it to be my favorite Transformers movie yet. I'm weird though, and didn't care much for the first movie, found the 2nd movie better, and enjoyed this one the best

Other then Ken Jeong, the terrible humor was almost all gone which I hated in both of the previous two movies, and it felt to me like more action and time was given to the actual Transformers, which coupled with the best shot action featuring them yet made me the most satisfied. I still hate the character design, and still hate how only a handful of the Transformers feel like actual characters rather then just cannon fodder to make time for human interaction, but things like NEST and Sam do their part and get out of the way better in this one. I don't really see how this movie was any more bloated then the previous ones; yeah there are some dumb side stories that pad the run time, but things like Sector 7 and the hackers in the first movie were even more boring.

I was also surprised at how many humans get wiped out and vaporized. The "blood" or fluid from the Transformers getting killed seemed a bit silly though. And I have no problems calling the action sequence at the end amazing :)

This was one of the dumbest fucking movies I've ever watched. And John Malkovich and Francis McDormand looked like they were just doing it for the paycheck. I really feel dumber for watching it.

The story is o.k., much better than 2. The action scenes are some of the most boring action ever put on a screen.

Fixed.

It just went on and on! I didn't think it would ever end. There are no stakes, you don't care about any of the characters, it's just an offensive assault on the senses. Hated this movie.

Really? I thought they added a certain elitism to the film. They were above the production, with the effort for acting like special characters, in a movie where actors just facilitate explosions. Like a wink-wink to the crowd who enjoys them in Coen Bros movies and stuff. There were five or ten points when it felt like they brought their personal thing to the board.

But, yea, it was dumb. It was so dumb. I feel so torn about it. It's dumb. And the movie is sooo whored out (what were there, 15 shots of a Lenovo, a Waste Management truck, Nokia phones, not to mention the military propaganda ... which I liked). But it's really, really fun. The feelings are there. The effects are there - you can't tell what's CGI and what's composited. It's almost like if Michael Bay and Co would just spend an extra little bit on characters and some underlying depth, he'd be making some of the most epic, rich, complex movies of our time. I wonder if he'll ever go for that angle.

John Malkovich was wasted (although I liked his "the job that standing in front of you" bit) but I really liked Francis McDormand in this. Her no BS attitude reminded me of John Voigt in the first film.

That's odd. One reason I liked this film so much is that it was funny! I thought Malkovich, McDormand, and Turturrro were all funny (and all from Coen Bros. movies). And I still find Shia LeB. funny, esp. in his rivalry with Dempsey. And the reason I enjoyed the first one so much was its sense of humor, beautifully integrated with giant robot battles. I laughed a lot during this one and enjoyed the build-up to the spectacular Battle of Chicago, which had some of the best special effects I've seen in the 21st century--and all in IMAX 3-D, which is how I saw this.

Michael Bay Confirms Transformers 4 Release Date

Following up on a story we posted earlier today about Transformers 4, director Michael Bay added the following confirmation on his official site:

There has been a lot of speculation about what I'm going to do next and when or if I will do another Transformers. So let me set the record straight.

I have just concluded a deal with Paramount to do two movies, but it won't be two Transformers.

I will first do 'Pain & Gain' with Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.

Then I will do the next Transformers for release on June 29, 2014.

-Michael Bay

To reiterate, producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura told us earlier that "we're going to try to do a hybrid there where there will be some characters that come forward--we think, we're still in the process of figuring it out--and some characters that don't, but it will definitely be a different story."

I'm looking forward to Pain & Gain more than I am another Transformers movie and I have absolutely no idea what Pain & Gain is about.

Although I may eat my words if Wahlberg plays a character named "Pain" and Johnson plays a character named "Gain"

Yeah I'll bet this is where this is heading. Bay's movies just keep getting dumber and dumber, which is seemingly impossible, but he continues to top himself with each ensuing movie.

Given that Sentinel Prime's headdress looked very similar to that of Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime (and that they originally named Sentinel Prime as Ultra Magnus), I doubt he'll be anything like his 80's incarnation.

Since we saw Beasts during the prologue of DOTM (and there was another Beastie during the action finale), I wonder if that's the closest we'll get to Dinobots in this franchise. Hell, the Wreckers themselves behaved more like the Dinobots than their namesakes.
