It was like something out of Gremlins.

You know, I hadn't made the conscious connection but now that you mention it, that's almost got to be why I dig Wheelie. Plus, he sounds like sleazy Steve Buscemi.

Yeah, Wheelie rocked.

The whole home appliances sequence felt like a homage to Gremlins.

...I hated wheelie. The only thing I liked out of TF2 was the action...everything else..just...no..no no no...

Seeing wheelie doesn't sit well w/ me.

Eh, I doubt he'll be a major part of it. Looks like he's Sam's robot pet now.

I thought too much of the pseudo-Apatow humor went too far in both movies, particularly the second, but Wheelie was about as far out as I was willing to go with it. Plus, I think what I liked about him was how he vocalized what most of the audience thought about Megan Fox: hot, but not much else. It was as though Wheelie was there to acknowledge our thoughts, because he clearly wasn't very impressed by nearly anyone else in that movie.

In that respect, he reminded me of why I so enjoyed Liam Neeson's performance as Qui-Gon Jinn. Neeson hated even making the movie, and that made it easy to identify with his obvious disdain while watching the thing.

I've heard it but when did he say that? I feel bad for Neeson having to feel that way...I can understand though.

I hated Wheelie too. I'm surprised people are saying they liked him now, as his character along with the "twins" contributed to the worst humor in the movie.

I remember reading an article in which he essentially said that because it was all green screen work he felt like an automaton rather than an actor, just regurgitating banal dialog to things that didn't exist. I think it was the soulless nature of the production more than anything else. I do distinctly recall a remark being quoted at the time of the film's release that Neeson was grateful he was only signed for the one movie.

I'd have said I liked him when I saw the movie if anyone had asked me then. For me, there is a key difference between Wheelie and the twins, and that's that Wheelie was almost entirely peripheral. He had a sliver of information that was helpful to Sam in finding Jetfire, but it's not like he fought and took down Devastator by himself. Also, like I said, I felt that Wheelie represented me as someone in the audience, making fun of the other characters; conversely, the twins weren't my brand of humor at all.

So, yeah, a very minor character shooting off wisecracks at the expense of ridicule-worthy characters is fine with me in a way that prevalent, obnoxious characters aren't. I think it's way too reductive to equate these characters. I indulged Wheelie; I endured the twins.

if it's not contributing to the story take him out. Wheelie didn't really matter in TF2.

Re: Transformers 3 Announced

I don't need a little perverted robot humping Megan Fox on screen to re-iterate that she's hot. Bay has enough lingering shots to do that :) And he got plenty of screen time, enough for me to lump him in as one of the many obnoxious and worthless additions to the movie so I have a hard time separating him from the other annoyingly bad jokes in the film. Which is funny, since I still liked ROTF better then the first movie.

Don't tell me; tell the writers. Except, of course, they're under no obligation to entertain direction from us (true for all writers in all media). When did we decide as a culture that we were entitled to take our reactions to art/entertainment to a higher level in which we're allowed to decide how things "should have been?" Isn't it enough to say, "I liked/disliked" and "That worked/didn't work for me?"

I liked Wheelie despite the leg humping. Much how I liked Jetfire despite the parachute fart.

But I think we can all agree that Leo sucked.

PG-13 for intense prolonged sequences of sci fi action violence, mayhem and destruction, and for language some sexuality and innuendo

Hell yeah

It's not R-rated, but its run time exceeds two hours so it's got that going for it.

I'm hoping they use this film to bring some core aspects back to the forefront, like the Matrix of leadership, the Quintessons, Unicron, Alpha Trion, etc.

They've pretty much already squandered the Matrix and frankly I'd rather they just leave that alone rather than try to "clarify" that concept, which would likely only make it even more convoluted. As for the others, I'm open to the idea but frankly I have no interest in seeing these movies simply give us their version of characters and situations already seen and realized. There's just no way they're going to be willing to even try to give us a Unicron as impressive as the 1986 movie version, and frankly I'd rather just watch that movie than risk seeing Unicron be treated like Galactus in Rise of the Silver Surfer.

There's nothing wrong with showing us characters and story elements from the decades old mythos, but if they're just going to show me something I've already seen or show me an inferior version of it, then I'd just as soon they leave well enough alone and invent something new in which I'm not already invested.

Re: Transformers 3 Announced

Unless the fates of the Quintessons, Unicron, or Alpha Trion wil be resolved in this one movie, none of those characters will ever show up. The writers had originally intended to plant seds regarding the Matrix of Leadership and the Fallen as far back as the first movie but Michael Bay nixed those ideas. He wants his films (even if they be sequels) to be essentially self contained stories.

Re: Transformers 3 Announced

Hell, the fate of the Quintessons wasn't even resolved in the original cartoon and they were in at least 5 episodes. There was a 5 parter pretty much all about them plus the movie and there may have even been more episodes devoted to them. I still don't quite understand what they're all about. Super cool characters but there's no way they could just show up in this movie since this will supposedly be the last one. I assume if it does Avatar dollars they'll throw another one out there but I believe Bay always intended these to be a trilogy and that's it.

From the looks of the trailer, Omega Supreme is in it and even he has a somewhat lengthy and interesting backstory. I wonder if that will be touched on. There were a lot of characters that were introduced later in the cartoon that were actually kind of complicated.

Maybe we can at least all agree that Wheelie was the only character that Michael Bay actually improved from G1.

I hated the Wheelie character in the '86 movie.

I always thought the hate for G1 Wheelie was silly, given how minor he really is. Plus, I enjoyed watching Grimlock react to him. Gave the Dinobot leader a different kind of dynamic from the subservience and accommodation afforded him by all the rest.
