Re: Favorite Movie Studio
Disney for me lately, largely because of the Marvel movies and a recent resurgence in their animated movies. Their live action stuff is hit or miss quality wise, but even then you get some good ones like the recent Cinderella.

Universal and WB just have much deeper movie catalogs than the other studios.

Overall I'd say probably Universal or Warner Bros. At the moment though I'd probably say Disney because of Marvel, Lucasfilm, and Pixar falling under their banner plus they have decent output under their own brand too.

If I was asked today, it would be a toss-up between Shaw Bros. and Toei.

On the subject of Toei, I wonder if there will ever be rereleases of the Dragon Box that don't cost more than a goddamn Ferrari?

Re: Favorite Movie Studio
I'd go with Fox, simply because they control MGM's output, which, in large part, consists of Orion's holdings, of which a goodly amount are films made by AIP (such as Blacula, Corman's Poe pictures, the Phibes films, some key Bava films, etc.). MGM also controls a lot of Embassy's titles (e.g. The Fog, Escape from New York, The Howling, The Graduate, The Sure Thing) and they have one of my favorite classic movies as well (The Purple Plain).
Sony would probably be second, and Universal third.

Re: Favorite Movie Studio
I missed this thread from its earlier history, but am bugged that it calls a major movie studio just "Fox" when the correct name of the studio is "20th Century Fox" (which is because it was initially created as a merger of "20th Century Pictures" and "Fox Films" back in the 1930s). Although all are subsidiaries of the same company, "Fox" is TV channels and such, while "20th Century Fox" is the movie studio.
(Maybe I'm being too nitpicky, but that is the correct name. After all, no one should call "Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios" just "Mayer Studios" and calling "20th Century Fox" just "Fox" is equally as wrong.)

Re: Favorite Movie Studio
Bitch bitch bitch. Fox is Fox.
This is incorrect. Nobody would call Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios by that name anymore unless you really wanted to out of formality or some such. It's MGM. Marvel Studios is just called Marvel. People shorten the name all the time, get over it. You talk about movies, you say Fox and people get that it's 20th Century Fox. But why would you say all that instead of just... Fox?

I wonder why they never bothered to change it to "21st Century Fox," as Jeopardy 1999 suggested would happen.
Although, the parent company actually is named that now.

Shouldn't we get a new thread? Out of the studios releasing wide releases, we really have:
20th Century Fox (+ Fox Searchlight Pictures)
Disney (+ Lucasfilm Ltd / Marvel / Pixar)
Lionsgate (+ Roadside / Summit)
Open Road Films
Paramount
Sony (+ Columbia / Screen Gems / Sony Pictures Classics / Tri-star)
Relativity
Universal (+ Focus Features)
Warner Brothers (+ New Line Cinema)
Weinstein Company (+ Dimension Films / Radius-TWC)

If I hear "Fox", I think "TV" but if I hear "20th Century Fox", I think "Movies". That's the difference.

But the difference is the topic of discussion. We're talking about film. You say Fox, everyone gets that. Unless they don't know that there is a movie studio.
