V/H/S 2 (2013) (dir. Gareth Evans, Jason Eisener, Eduardo Sanchez, etc.)

The horror anthology is alive and ready for round two. V/H/S 2, a sequel to this year’s horror hit V/H/S, has just been announced. The film will retain the same producing team (including the people behind Bloody Disgusting) and at least one of the original directors (You’re Next director Adam Wingard), but most of the creative roster is brand new.

At the top of the new list is Gareth Evans, the director of The Raid, who’ll co-direct a segment with Timo Tjahjanto. Also directing for the film is Eduardo Sanchez, a co-director of The Blair Witch Project, who’ll co-direct his V/H/S segment with producing partner Gregg Hale. They’re joined by Jason Eisener (Hobo With a Shotgun) and Simon Barrett, Wingard’s writing partner who’ll be making his directorial debut. Read more after the jump.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news of the film, which will follow the same structure of the original. In the original (which is now out in limited theaters and on demand) a group of men is hired to find a hidden VHS tape and, while looking for it, encounter some crazy stories. This new movie will be similar, except that it centers on “a pair of investigators discovering a tape while looking for a student.”

Filming will take places across the globe, in Los Angeles, Maryland, Nova Scotia, British Columbia and Indonesia.

V/H/S has gained notareity amongst film fans for creating an audience experience in which people have, on multiple occasions, needed medical attention during the film. And while it’s not exactly scary enough that you have to worry about your health, it is one of the more fun horror films released in the past few years. It’s sad to see some of the original film’s directors not returning, but having Evans, Sanchez and Eisener doing segments is a nice balance.

I didn't see V/H/S yet, but I've heard very mixed reviews. That said, I'm excited about Gareth Evans being involved in the sequel.

I never saw the first, but decent bump in talent for the sequel.

I watched the first one last night actually. Wasn't terribly impressed - but wasn't entirely disappointed either. Not surprised to see there's a sequel in the works.

Hopefully, this batch of directors can make a good movie this time.

This is just so weird to me. I'm hard pressed to think of anything in that movie that would make me faint. I guess I'm majorly desensitized to movie violence.

Was it the throat stabbing? Because that was pretty brutal.

What made that great was how real it seemed. No music no screaming just a man choking on his own blood. That was the most authentic part of the movie for me.

I really liked the movie with the exception of the Blair Witch wannabe story.

Story 1,2 and 5 being my favs.

I had enough fun with the first film that I'll probably check this out.

I got most of the way through the Kevin Hart promo thinking it was still part of the V/H/S 2 trailer.

Re: V/H/S 2 (2013) (dir. Gareth Evans, Jason Eisener, Eduardo Sanchez, etc.)

I'm one of those people who loved the first because it has been a while since a horror flick with balls came along. It just had such an old school feel to it.

I'm down for this one as well. I'm actually more excited for this then say a a paranormal activiy sequel (another series I loved) because the creators have more room to explore different paths (as opposed to just sticking to one formula).

We'll see. And if anything, this thread reminded me I still have to buy the blu-ray for VHS.

I'm surprised he had time to work on this what with the Godzilla reboot kicking into gear.

Wrong Gareth Evans. He did The Raid. Gareth Edwards is doing Godzilla.

early word from sundance says this one blows the first one out of the water.

With its streamlined approach and group of ridiculously talented filmmakers at the helm, S-VHS is a total success, and there will surely be more to come.

Maybe if I hadn't heard the hype about V/H/S I would have thought it was an OK independent found footage horror movie. Unfortunately I listened he buzz and was hugely disappointed.

I'll give this one a shot without building up any expectation this time.
