Re: Movie Talk (Reverse) Sheep — A Forum Game
The Money Pit has been ruled out as a romantic comedy. I understand how Big and The Terminal are borderline, but I am more lenient on those since two different people answered each of them.
That still doesn't help Gone with the Wind's case though.
And the final ruling is that sauce07 and wishbone are incorrect regarding Peter Jackson.

I've never seen The Lovely Bones, nor do I care what the ruling is. All the bickering is fun, and supposed to be fun, but I have a feeling that some people aren't having fun.

Re: Movie Talk (Reverse) Sheep — A Forum Game
but it wasn't "specifically mentioned in the question," it just asked at year end what will be the highest grossing movie of the year. That could mean out of the available answers, which is only movies already released, what will be the highest grossing. If the question was "Including all potential 2009 releases, what will be the highest grossing?" I would have no problem with it.

I confess that I haven't seen the Money Pit in 20+ years, so maybe it qualifies, but I remember it being more about the disastrous house than about the relationship.

Not every comedy with a romantic plot is a romantic comedy. The romantic comedy is a particular genre that involves a couple meeting (either actually meeting or having a pre-existing relationship become a potentially romantic relationship), a potential for romance existing, obstacles (usually external but sometimes internal) frustrating that romance, and then the obstacles being overcome so that the couple can get together.

So as not to be an asshole, any Bruckheimer AND Simpson/Bruckheimer movies count. I don't expect people to pay pedantic attention to production companies.

Totally true, and I made that point earlier when I pointed out that BIG is in no way a "romantic comedy".
Not always. That's generic formula, and a bad one at that. In THE MONEY PIT, Hanks and Long are romantically involved at the beginning but not married, conflict enters when her ex-husband returns, Hanks's insane jealousy over the fact that the ex is rich, handsome, and still in his gf's life, a big misunderstanding occurs which almost derails the relationship entirely, things fall apart, then Hanks has big romantic revelation, married in the end, all is well. The "house falling apart" is the setting, but not the focus.
All IMO of course.
Watch it again. Aside from being hilariously underrated, it is by its very definition a romantic comedy.
Certain a thousand times moreso than BIG.

So when you said "Name a film released by Jerry Bruckheimer Films" what you really meant was "Name a film released by Jerry Bruckheimer Films. Or not. You know. Whatever. As long as Jerry Bruckheimer was involved somehow, it's cool."
