Personally, I think the possibility of autoerotic asphyxiation makes this an even better story. I mean, really, the dude was 72 and died in a hotel in Bangkok. Maybe I'm just a romantic, but I'd like to believe it was nookie gone wrong.

If I recall correctly, his only directing experience is a handful of rap videos. But this was announced years ago. I'm surprised it's still listed as being in pre-production. I would have thought the project cancelled by now.

He may well have had a heart attack or stroke or something while engaged in this practice. But it sure doesn't sound like "suicide" or "hanging" to me.

If it was indeed autoerotic asphyxiation I have to wonder if Carradine died before he could see it too.
Pretty shocking. If it was suicide it seems odd to me that he'd have been in the middle of filming a movie, though I guess when you hit that point it doesn't really matter what obligations you may have.
It's definitely turning into an interesting story. Almost playing out like a low budget David Carradine movie.

I define "romantic" as celebrating humanity, not as some Hallmark-fabricated sense of chaste courtship. Sexuality is a meaningful facet of human life and, if it should turn out that at 72 he was in fact done in by a kink-gone-wrong then I tip my hat for having such vitality and adventuresome spirit at that point in his life.
I don't understand why others think it would be more comforting to them if he had passed away in his sleep. Whether it was what I've described or just outright suicide, the man was in control of his actions at the time of his death. Perhaps Carradine did not intend to die as a consequence of his actions, but he seemingly had control over them enough to initiate them. For my money, that's far more gratifying than just not awakening.

Gratifying is being able to enjoy the fruits of your labor in a conscious state when you're finished. The Five Point Palm Ejaculating Testicles technique only left him dead, that's all. You can't kick back with a smoke and a smile when you're dead.
