Quarantine is pretty much an exact copy, a much inferior copy, of [REC], so you aren't missing much of the story. You should see and own [REC] imo, but waiting shouldn't hurt your enjoyment of [REC2].

Re: Rec 2

Well that was a disappointment. I didn't feel any tension with the first group. Hated the second group. The ending was contrived as hell. In fact, the second film relies too heavily on contrivances. A shame since I loved [REC] and was looking forward to seeing a trilogy. [REC] 2 killed any interest I had for [REC] 3.

Re: Rec 2

Haven't seen rec or Quarantine but really, I don't think you had to see either in order to enjoy or understand rec2.

It's basically a mishmash of other genres and films but it did lack any real scares and the action was tame IMO for the setup of a fully-loaded SWAT team entering the building.

Spoiler:
So it looks like the "demonic possessions" were actually aliens, ala Dreamcatcher, as the newspaper clippings suggested and how the slug went into the TV anchor.

I'll probably see where rec3 goes but I think they can't pull off the first-person perspective for an entire film with the grand scale of what an urban/global outbreak would have.

Yup. That looks like where it's going. But it was a rather lazy twist and didn't really jive with everything else. To be honest, it felt like they were making it up as they went along with no real logic to hold it together. And a lot of character decisions were beyond contrived.
Spoiler:
The best example being the soldier that offed himself when the priest had already let them know that headshots are what's needed to kill the infected. He had a fully loaded gun and his attackers in a bottleneck situation. There was no need to off himself.

I just didn't buy his plight in the bathroom or how he didn't even kick at the window rather than feebly pulling at it.

Re: Rec 2

I watched it on-demand last night. The film was so fast and frenzied that I had a heck of a time following at the beginning.

Question:

Spoiler:
Did they show what happened to the teen girl who snuck in with her brother and his friend? The last I remember, she was locked into a room.

I don't agree with that at all.
Spoiler:
If that were the case, the priest would have no power over the Damned.
The sequel failed to engage me, but I did like the strong sense of continuity between the films. They could have very easily gone the lazy route and featured a different outbreak in a different building, or somesuch.

Spoiler:
We're left to assume that they were to be burned to death after the possessed Angela gave the order to burn the building down.

I know where you're coming from but there were a lot of clues at the end of the first movie (as well as early in this one) that it was
Spoiler:
not the product of demonic possession but something much more sci-fi in nature. That doesn't really make any sense, of course, given how crucifixes and prayer could control the damned but The Hidden-esque final scene sure seems to suggest an alien parasite rather than a demon.

I love that they went the continuity route but they failed to do anything interesting with it. It also doesn't help that all the characters mostly blur together. In [REC] all the characters felt distinct and real. Here they just all felt the same and more like props for set pieces than actual people.

I don't think that disproves it
Spoiler:
What if the aliens have been around forever as what we know to be demons or that they have some bind to religion?

I completely agree; I'm not sure if it was a budget thing or just lazy direction/writing.

Spoiler:
As you mentioned about the priest complaining about the blood when it was right there: why not have him say" OK, we got the blood" and the TV Reporter says, "Fine, give the order to evacuate" even though she has never heard him or the other SWAT members mention such a thing? Or why is it that they have all these weapons but they can't lay waste to approximately 10 people they are confronted with?

Re: Rec 2

I had seen Quarantine first. Then this week, I watched both Rec and Rec2. Both were great -- although I think I was more impressed with the sequel and the way it maintained its originality instead of going for cheap thrills. Glad to hear we'll be getting two more installments.

Any update on the status of the third film? An earlier article mentioned a Fall 2011 date.

Re: Rec 2

I liked quarantine better then [rec] but liked [rec]2 better than both quarantine & rec - with that out of the way.....

This flick scared the shit out of me more than a couple of times. To be honest...I didn't think they were going to have another angle to play on meaning I thought this was just going to be a movie about a never ending flow of people who were infected.

But what made it work so well was not just a new spin on what was going on but also just how well made of a film it is.

I don't buy the
Spoiler:
alien thing either - just because a nasty slug gets sent down someones throat doesn't automatically = alien

Great flick - not quite sure what some of you are so upset about.

Re: Rec 2

I find the videocam POV annoying as hell. I wasn't going to watch [REC]2 but my friend had a copy so I borrowed it. Well it was just as annoying as the first one.
