Well thankfully it's the sequel to the original and not the (yet again) horrible U.S. remake. So sign me up.

I'm wondering if this is an actual sequel or the events from the first flick re-told from another perspective.

Loved the first film.
I hope the head mounted cameras do not make this sequel turn into a video game/"first person shooter" looking film.

Re: Rec 2
According to BD they're working on that. Supposedly it will be an original sequel and not a remake of a sequel for which the first one was a remake of. Sounds exciting doesn't it? Now, where is the best place to import Rec as I felt that Quarantine was a piece of shit that needed its ass wiped.

Holy fuck, that final trailer really just made me want to see this so much more and I was already excited enough as is.
And yes, if you haven't seen REC yet, do yourself the pleasure of seeing it. Way better than Quarantine

Re: Rec 2
I'd heard going into this at TIFF that REC2 was to REC what James Cameron's ALIENS was to Ridley Scott's ALIEN, and Balaguero and Plaza confirmed it in the Q&A. And they're right. It has the exact same effect that Cameron's film did 23 years ago of converting those who didn't think the original could be improved upon, or respected.
[REC]2 is a logical, completely organic, followup to the original, with more characters, and some returning characters, and more of everything that worked the first time and plenty of new muscle to flesh out both the story and the techniques used to tell it.
And lots of GUNS! And demonic children! And what happened to Angela . . .
They don't build up to the good stuff in this. They don't have to because the first film was the backstory. This STARTS with the good stuff and never slows down. It's the kind of thrill ride "critics" often proclaim far lesser genre movies to be, with a surfeit of expertly calculated lulls (the kind where you hear people around you starting to squeak) before all hell breaks loose--frequently.
The REC films, to these eyes, are the quintessential horror antidotes to the overworked "torture" genre (represented at the fest this year by THE LOVED ONES), where the only horror comes from queasily watching people suffer and die in real time. [REC]2, like it's predecessor, is in real time, for the most part, but it has you rooting for the good guys (well, most of 'em anyways) from the moment they walk into the building, guns poised . . .
I'd LOVE to see this in the theatre again, but I worry that we'll see a sequel to QUARANTINE before some studio (was that Bob Weinstein hogging the balcony for himself tonight?) would trust the public to get the shit scared out of them with subtitles.
Nonetheless, I can't recommend this highly enough!

Re: Rec 2
The movie was good, picks up right at the end of the first movie, with the SWAT team and a doctor entering the quarantined building. same sets, same people (as zombies), fun to go back to.
But there were some scenes that were not improved upon. The fights against the infected were not as good, i thought, and I guess the suspense was not as much, as we the audience who saw part 1 already know what's coming for them.
And yes, definitely open to a 3rd film....
