I left work early one day and wound up seeing The Strangers. It wasn't really intentional though. I just didn't feel like heading right home and that flick's starting time meshed well with my arrival.

I almost did for Dark Knight. I actually put vacation time in months beforehand for that Friday since I planned on seeing it a few times in theaters opening day. Someone was fired that week though so I had to cover and cancel my plans. Ended up seeing it in IMAX the day after opening, though.
Back in the 90s and earlier part of this decade I was still in high school and never skipped to go to the movies. I'd always go opening night at dinner time since where I was from most people wouldn't come until after 7. I saw Episode I that opening Wednesday at 5:15 with no line and only a handful of people in the theater.

When I worked at an office, I remember taking a long lunch one afternoon to see Signs. Now that I work at home, I do whatever I want.

That's funny, I did the same exact thing, for the same exact movie. Showtime was at 5:10PM, and it was the last day it was showing at the $1 theatre, so I said I wasn't feeling well, left about 45 minutes early, and made it to the theatre just in time.

Took off opening day for Star Trek. Also for a few others in the years past as well. Not usually, but like others, wanted to see the movie early on and not deal with the crowds or rowdy kids, like on a weekend or here with school being ready to be out.

No. But with my new flexible hours, I used to work 1a-9a but now I'm 9ish to 5ish, I can hit more of the Midnight shows so I may start going in late if the film is something I really want to see.

I've taken a day off here and there in the past for a movie, but nothing compared to seeing Phantom Menace opening day with my wife. In the middle of our honeymoon.

No.
However, my last period teacher my senior year of high school allowed me to not attend his class so I could go see The Matrix Revolutions.
This was immediately right after I just missed two weeks of school due to mono.

Remember mom picking me and my sister up from school for a "doctor's appointment" only to find out she was taking us to see Empire Strikes Back. Mom got big points for that one!

Does going on vacation and then seeing a movie count?
It's technically a day off work.
If so, yes. We took a roadtrip to BlobFest in Phoenixville, PA last year, and I ended up seeing The Blob and Creature From The Black Lagoon (in 3D) at the Colonial.
If the vacation/movie thing doesn't count, then no...
