Ever taken a day off work just to see a particular movie?
i was talking to a friend about this over Memorial Day on whether you were so anxious to see a movie that you took a day off from work just to see it. he told me of "Phantom Menace". i remembered not taking a day off for it, but actually driving to another state (CT to NY) with two girlfriends of mine just to see it in the stadium theater that i liked. we made a night of it and it was fun actually, but i didn't take a day off.
i think i might have done it for each of the "Lord of the Rings" movies (or at least 2 out of 3). that one day in December when i didn't want to weigh through crowds of people over the weekend and roped at least one other to go with me. i remember it being pretty fun days and knew i would be able to take a day off without any repercussions.
i know with the die hards here there must have been a day or two or three that you decided to take off and go see a movie, even if it wasn't the most highly anticpated by anyone else but you.
so have you taken a day off just to see a movie & which movie was it for?

One for each Lord of the Rings. I just told my boss, and he said ok. He kind of knew that I loved these films so he just looked the other way. Good thing the network didn't break on those days!

I took a couple hours off to see The Dark Knight last summer because I didn't want to deal with the weekend crowds. The summer is fairly quiet at the job, so 3 hours away from the computer wasn't a big deal. I went back to work afterwards.

Only for the Lord of the Rings films (the third, naturally, being Trilogy Tuesday , one of the best movie-going experiences of my entire life).

I took a vacation day to see Nashville at a film festival about ten years ago. My vacation got cancelled about four hours before showtime. I still haven't seen it.

Yes. Episodes I, II and III plus the LOTRs films. Oh, and TDK. Midnight showings. Episodes I and II were the only ones I didn't see again the next afternoon.

Not really taken off from work, but I've put my time in earlier in the week so as to take off early on Friday and catch a movie on opening day.

Batman Begins comes to mind, since i think it opened on a Wed, and I'm not sure if there was a midnight. I went in late after seeing the Watchmen midnight.

I booked the day off to see Spiderman. I wanted to see it first day, but didn't want to deal with the evening crowds.

From 1998-2000, I worked at a restaurant and wasn't free Thursday through Sunday nights. I had been going to see a movie practically every Friday until I started that job, and it really broke that habit. Still, I did arrange trades so I could go see Star Trek: Insurrection and The World Is Not Enough. Star Wars: Episode I's midnight showing was on a Wednesday night, and my Thursday shift didn't start until 4:00, so that was no problem.
I also missed a lot of movies because while I was working there, I took classes on Mondays and Wednesdays; only Tuesdays were "free," and those were spent doing assignments. I still haven't seen many of the movies released during that time period!
