I just placed "Shame" in my queue as a result of watching that clip. I thought Fassbender was the definitive Magneto in the previous X-Men , and I think he is a very fine actor.

Shows much more than previous ones - a creature, helmet melting, etc. It was impossible for me to resist, but a few shots might've been better to experience for the first time in the theater.

If this movie winds up sucking, I anticipate a meltdown in this forum of Crystal Skull level proportions. (While I was on a "sabbatical" of sorts from DVDTalk when that was released, I can only imagine what happened. I thought it was okay, but around here merely okay Indiana Jones= epic fail).

Yeah...if this sucks it'll be bad. It'll be worse than Indiana Jones' backlash. People were excited but many were still weary of it coming back. THIS on the other hand has shit tons of expectations..and it has absolute fuck all to do that it's part of Alien. No..it's mostly about Ridley going back to Science Fiction. THAT is the reason this is huge. You know...cuz he did 2 of the greatest films ever and 2 of the greatest films in it's genre.

There was a tracking story a few weeks ago on public interest/awareness and Prometheus scored very low... (I think Avengers and Dark Knight were tops by a large margin). So, any online drama is pretty much strictly related to just us who are going to see it regardless of how it turns out. At this point I would say it's best chances to gain a larger audience would be stellar reviews and some stories as to how disturbing it is, in which case an R-rating might help that.

If you look at the original Alien, it really isn't a very hard R at all... literally a few less F-words and bloody shots and I think it could get a PG-13 today. It also didn't cost 200million (even adjusted).... so, I'm assuming there's some very impressive footage that hasn't been shown yet by the marketing dept.

Wasn't that recognized about six months ago? The approach by the filmmakers here is to make a film that would stand on it's own - as if they were making an original film. That's why they've gone to such lengths to not come anywhere near the word "prequel", because in light of of other series, that brings a certain negative reaction.
