is it too late to get Robert De Niro to play Sinatra?
He is a fan of his music and maybe it would reinvigorate his career.

You beat me to it... but talk about potential cross promotion possibilities!Gotta expect the old late Nov/Dec, "gee would you like to see a screener Mr Oscar voter" release timeline... not that it would be targeting Oscars of course!

When reading the headline at Yahoo I thought that Lohan landed a role in a Scorsese picture.

I hope this is not true

Jamie Foxx has been tipped to play late Rat Pack crooner Frank Sinatra, according to reports.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Harry Connick Jr. were among the names rumoured to be in contention for the role after it was announced earlier this month that filmmaker Martin Scorsese will direct a biopic.
But now African-American actor Foxx, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of Ray Charles in 2004's Ray, has emerged as the favourite to play Ol' Blue Eyes.
And studio bosses are convinced Foxx has the charisma and talent to tackle the role of Sinatra, who died in 1998.
An insider tells Britain's Daily Star, "Jamie would seem to be born to the role. Magnificent voice, convincing acting ability - like Frank himself - born the wrong side of the tracks, makes it big against all odds, has his brush with authority. The guy's a gift."

I like Jaime Foxx and all, but to say he was born to play Sinatra just has to be a joke... then again throw a little makeup on him and put in some blue contacts and maybe they can pull it off... it worked out great for the Wayan's Brothers in White Chicks.

Ray Charles couldn't see Foxx as Sinatra! The guy may be a good actor but - HELLO - he's black. Frank is white. Nerds get upset when studios do this with comic characters, how do you think people would react when you do it to a fucking icon?
Also, they probably meant Sammy Davis, Jr.

They must want Foxx to play Sammy Davis Jr. and that news story is all f'ed up.
I recall that scorsese always wanted to make a Dean Martin bio-pic, so this Sinatra thing will probably include the whole rat pack.
I think Scorsese should get the whole cast from that Rat Pack movie made in the '90s with Don Cheadle as Sammy. That film wasn't very good but the actors were cast very well.

I like Scorsese, and don't want him going anywhere. I still enjoy his films (well, except stupid ones like Shutter Island). But his biopics are always fun.

I've often found that Scorsese is at his finest when his biopic type movies are in exposition mode and giving a history lesson of sorts on the time period presented.

In the future Coppola will be the more favored because everyone only remembers your very best and Cup's 70s quartet is da bomb yo.

Yeah but then people will ask well wtf happened after that? Also Conversation gets HEAVILY overshadowed AN and Godfather I and II. So in popular form those 3 get better remembered by the public.
Scorsese has Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Mean Streets, etc etc....a lot of films that will be remembered. Coppola has those 4. BUT those 4 are better than Scorsese's whole filmography (as much as it pains me to say that)

This is probably the one time DiCaprio would fit into a role without fault. I mean, I don't disparage Scorsese's choice for using Leonardo DiCaprio whenever he could, because DiCaprio is a fine actor, but a lot of times people have trouble visualizing DiCaprio in a particular role until the film is seen. But this is one time where DiCaprio's skinny frame works well (if he gets the role), as Frank Sinatra was a skinny guy in the early years.
Well, DiCaprio's gotten a little "puffier" over the years, so they might want to film him as he is right now for Frank's later years, then give DiCaprio a few months off so he can lose some body fat to be Frank in the early years.

I think this movie might be taking an "Ali" type approach by covering a limited # of years. I definitely could see DiCaprio as the early Sinatra, but he might require a bit of make-up for the later years. I would definitely love to see the Rat Pack factor, but I too feel the HBO movie had the best casting, especially Joe Mantegna as Martin.
If they take the approach of doing his early years including "comeback" (when he got the part in From Here to Eternity) , I hope they keep speculation as to how he got the role. Especially if the person he talks to about it can be a cameo by Robert DeNiro. Stuntcasting, I know, but cool!

Re: Scorsese to direct Sinatra bio-pic
Sinatra's intensity on film in his early years (1941-1959) was partly due to his being thin, but also due to his being "hungry." He was never satisfied. He wanted everything, esp. respect. There's a big change in him after 1960, after he'd finally achieved what he wanted. Compare him in Frank Capra's A HOLE IN THE HEAD (1959) to OCEAN'S 11 (1960). He's like a completely different actor. He's no longer hungry in the 1960s. Hard to believe he was already in his 40s in PAL JOEY and A HOLE IN THE HEAD.
So if you make a film about him, it would be hard to find an actor who could convincingly play both periods.
Has there ever been a feature-length documentary about him? There must be tons of film and news footage over the years that's relatively unseen.
I'd rather see an epic documentary about him than a movie biopic.
