Scorsese to direct Sinatra bio-pic

From Deadline Hollywood Daily:

He was an enigmatic legend, and it looks as if the picture that just came together will do that justice. I've just learned that Universal has acquired this project based on the life of Frank Sinatra from Mandalay Pictures. Phil Alden Robinson is writing the screenplay, and Marty Scorsese will direct as well as produce through his Sikelia Productions. The Sinatra family gave its permission, which is not easy to get, and youngest daughter Tina Sinatra will be an executive producer along with Robinson and Garry LeMel, the former president of Warner Bros music division and himself a musician. The producers will be Peter Guber and his movie exec Cathy Schulman. "This has been a passion project for Peter Guber for a long time, and first he got together with the Sinatra Estate, and then with Scorsese who's also a huge Sinatra fan," an insider tells me. That Scorsese might direct this film has been rumored for a year. In fact, Tina herself has told journalists in the past that she would "trust Scorsese implicitly" to "present the truth" about her father because he's also an Italian-American. No names of actors who might play Sinatra in the movie are circulating yet. Any suggestions?
You know Scorsese will want DiCaprio for the lead.

Great news. I'm really excited about the possibility of this movie being made, especially with Scorcese behind the camera. I loved "The Rat Pack" with Ray Liotta, so I can only imagine how much I'm gonna love this!

I don't have any problem with DiCaprio.

Neither do I. He's the obvious, and probably best, candidate for the part.

It's good to see Phil Alden Robinson back at work, I haven't seen or heard anything from him in years!

I agree DiCaprio is a good choice unless they want someone who can sing, then maybe an unknown actor/singer would be good (of course it goes without sayong that it would be box office death to pick an unknown over DiCaprio)

How will he do it? Will he let the studio executives dictate what's done? Will he let the actors boss him around?

I wouldn't trust anyone with a Siantra biopic other than Scorsese. This is great news.

For years, Scorsese had been trying to make a biopic of Dean Martin, with Tom Hanks as Dino...I guess this is supposed to replace it?

Di Caprio as Sinatra?! You guys are nuts. Have you never actually seen and heard Sinatra? I wouldn't cast Di Caprio as Frank Sinatra Jr. Or maybe I would.

It's not a question of whom would be the best Sinatra - though feel free to offer up any suggestions in that department - it's an issue of whom is most likely to play the role. That would be DiCaprio. Of course, this is all idle speculation on our parts, but isn't that what this forum is for?

Fantastic news. So, probably a Christmas 2010 release, eh?

I really, really dislike Sinatra but I really, really like Scorsese so I'm kind of torn on this project.

Scorsese is two for two on good bio-pics though.

As I get older, I appreciate Sinatra more and Scorsese less.

Over at Deadline Hollywood Daily... no singing by the actor required, and Universal wants Depp.

How can you hate Sinatra, he is the definition of the alpha male

Alpha Male can mean many things. Yeah, he's a guy..but..can he beat you up? I'd think Clive Owen is more of an Alpha Male type for today..among others.

Three: Raging Bull, The Aviator and Kundun. Some people would consider The Last Temptation of Christ as a fourth biopic.

I totally forgot about Kundun and I don't consider Last Temptation a biopic.

Los Angeles (E! Online) – Ol' Blue Eyes and young red hair are returning to the big screen—separately, that is.

Martin Scorsese has signed on to direct and produce a biopic of none other than Frank Siantra.

Sinatra, the first big-screen film on the entertainment legend, will touch on his love affairs and marriages (two of his four wives were Mia Farrow and Ava Gardner), his friendships with John F. Kennedy and the rest of the Rat Pack, his singing and acting career and, of course, his possible Mafia ties.

No actor is attached to the film, though Scorsese's go-to guy, Leonardo DiCaprio, is already being touted as a possible frontrunner. Universal has secured the rights to Sinatra's back catalog, so the lead won't need to sing, just lip-sync along with the classics.

Meanwhile, Lindsay Lohan has finally managed to land a gig, and 50 Cent, Forest Whitaker, Mark Ruffalo, Ray Liotta and Mila Kunis are also hopping on the casting couch.

• Lindsay Lohan is going back to The Other Side, starring in an indie fantasy comedy alongside Woody Harrelson, Giovanni Ribisi, Dave Matthews and Alanis Morissette. The film centers on a grad student who spends the summer working at a science institute on a remote island and discovers the location has a secret history. Cameras roll in Massachusetts this October.

• Talk about a dynamic duo. Forest Whitaker and Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson are joining the already-cast Keanu Reeves in Jekyll and Hyde, a contemporary adaptation of the split-personality doctor. Per Variety, there's no word yet on what roles the twosome will take on when filming begins in late summer.

• It's the more the merrier for Date Night. Mark Ruffalo, Mila Kunis and Ray Liotta have signed on to the romantic comedy about a married couple (Tina Fey and Steve Carell) whose attempt at a night out goes horribly awry. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Liotta plays a villain, Kunis is the wife of a low-rent criminal and Ruffalo will play Carell's best friend and husband of Kristen Wiig. The star-studded cast includes Mark Wahlberg, James Franco, Taraji P. Henson, Leighton Meester, Common and Jimmi Simpson.
When reading the headline at Yahoo I thought that Lohan landed a role in a Scorsese picture.

That's precisely why some people do hate him.

I hope this isn't the Scorsese lead that Vincent Chase is getting.
