I think the trailer looks good. I'm excited to see Norton's performance. I don't think he's "trying too hard" because most white dudes with cornrows are trying too hard anyway.

Also, I don't know about the trailer but there appeared to be a spoiler right at the end of the trailer. I couldn't really tell and I haven't seen the movie yet.

I'll watch it.

I always find it interesting what movies the studios choose to attach to a star. Case in point:

Mila Jovovich (Resident Evil, Zoolander)

Those are the best two they could come up with? I'd easily tag Mila with 5th Element first and foremost. Are those two films made by the same company as Stone?

Agreed. She gave a strong performance in "Fifth Element". Why not use that?

Being a southerner, I have to disagree. I've known many guys that sound/act just like him. To me, it's exactly right.

This looks terrible.
Far from terrible, it doesn't look that well but like I said before, promo trailers never do a movie justice. They're poorly edited but there is a lot of potential in there, it does have the potential to suck but we'll see.

I didn't know it was a thread before and how does it deliver? It's hardly different from this one, this just has more information in the original post.

I don't know if he's supposed to be a southerner. He came off as an urban gangster from New York or New Jersey which to me sounded pretty accurate since I'm from that area as well. It's just odd seeing it come out of Norton.

fortunately...I've met none of those here on campus. Maybe that says something about their education expectations...though....back home I'd see those come into my store (worked for HEB grocery, it's an Texas only and some Mexico only thing)

It's a good thing you started a new thread, the old one was junk.

It looks too slick and formulaic to be anything great. I'd rather it just be a straightforward prison/parole movie without the sexual subplot...even if it is Mila.

I agree.

I just watched it. With all the talent involved you can tell they were trying to go somewhere meaningful with it, but it fails on every count. I was really disappointed.

Tim Blake Nelson was excellent with his performance as usual, but he lost the film as a director. I didn't buy Richard Dreyfuss for a second.

Basically Blake Nelson was trying to incorporate what he learned from the Coens, but only the Coens can do it well.

To a degree I agree.

Spoiler:
He obviously had the theme of Whitman in his mind for the film, the title is that of Whitman's best-known book, also the overt reference by Keri Russell to that theme of no meter or structure(even no rhyme or reason?),only a chaos of ideas. There was a clear play on the more primitive and the more refined aspects of man, and what each signifies in their differences, yet they are really the same. This is also spelled out when Norton makes the overt reference to this idea, that we have not changed at all since the days of the philosophers, then at the end with the Rabbi concluding on the thought with we are animals, we act like we aren't but we are.

There were some great themes going on, city mouse country mouse, all the the ideas above. But Tim Blake Nelson just did not pull them together in the final product. The guy from the airplane was so contrived and silly, you could see everything coming a mile off.

I can see how everyone reading such a script would see the themes and ideas and totally be into it, but they were not realized in the film. It fell flat and did not deliver on them.

Maybe they feel 5th Element is too old. The Resident Evil movies are recent & are still a popular games. Zoolander isn't exactly new but it was a hit, probably more than 5th Element was.

Of course she has been in other more recent (4th Kind) but I guess those were flops that audiences won't remember.

Norton and DeNiro look great, but I'm surprised to say that it looks as if Jovovich is holding her own very well based on this trailer. Looking forward to it!
