Eli Roth has confirmed he is indeed making "Thanksgiving"

Re: Where is Machete?

I think the concept itself wasn't going to be a big hit. Seemed like more of a cult type of film from the get go, so the poor box office didn't surprise me. And i'd agree that the TV spots made it hard for a regular movie goer to understand what they were trying to do and what Grindhouse actually was.

That, and I thought Death Proof was boring as hell.

See, its that kind of hyperbole that gives people too much hope. He hasn't "confirmed" anything. He says, "...The plan is this: I want to do a huge budget movie, but tack on three weeks to the end of it and shoot ‘Thanksgiving’,” he revealed. “I want to do an $80 million dollar movie, and then schedule three weeks at the end to quickly shoot a $5 million dollar movie.” A plan is not a confirmation. He also planned on adapting Kings Cell and remake The Bad Seed but those stalled, so could this.

I remember when Eli Roth "confirmed" that he was making the movie "Cell" as well, and as you said, that never happened. I remember when he "confirmed" he was making a movie called "Trailer Trash", which also never happened.

Re: Where is Machete?

The movie made about as much as a real grindhouse flick would have. Seems about right.

Best post ever...

I would definitely see Machete, as well as "Don't!". Gosh this thread makes me want that Japanese Grindhouse set for the theatrical cuts. In fact I'd rather they release the double feature disc rather than Machete.

I'm pretty sure he still intends to make Cell.

Re: Where is Machete?

Fucking YAY! on that news...also...

Being the only mexican kid in my circle of friends and whatnot...I was laughing like crazy at the concept of Machete. Grindhouse was the only time I had ever EVER been that excited by the things on screen. I was heavily exicited and whatnot. Also...once the tagline "They just fucked with the wrong Mexican!" came up I was screaming in joy cuz...well it's fucking badass. I'm sure this alone will get the Mexican crowd here in Texas to go see it (well...maybe a small number in reality but you never know!). About time we have a hero to cheer for

"In addition to the news that Robert Rodriguez is going to direct 20th Century Fox's reboot of the Predator franchise, it was also announced that the writer-director-producer is eyeing a June start date in Austin for Machete, a feature about the blade- wielding antihero who appeared in a mock trailer that was part of Grindhouse back on '07. The film is financed and produced by Overnight Productions, with Danny Trejo starring as the title character. Machete is a Mexican ex-Federale with a gift for wielding a blade, who hides out as a day laborer, who is double-crossed by a corrupt state senator. Rodriguez wrote the script and will direct the film with Ethan Maniquis, his longtime editor."

Re: Where is Machete?

Yay!

IESB is reporting that director Robert Rodriguez is rebooting the franchise (Predator). "I'm going to be able to shoot my upcoming Machete here, a sci-fi action film called 'Nervewrackers,' a re-boot of the Predator series called Predators, and a couple of smaller movies called 'Sin City 2' and 'The Jetsons,'" he said in a speech speaking to Texan politicians.

Re: Where is Machete?

Interesting. Always wary when a director says "I'm doing this, and this, and this, and this, and this..." because a full director plate almost never pans out. Curious to see who's producing Machete and what the budget will be. If he makes it, hope he aims cheap and more true to old b-films.
