Why Does Hollywood Hate Christianity So Much?

Re: Why Does Hollywood Hate Christianity So Much?
It's not as bashing to Christianity as you may think. I saw it and I was by far more offended by the Christians in the movie who would see him and just throw him out of their church and not listen to a word he said. Yeah, that's Christ like.

I don't recall that exactly lighting up the box office...
And I suspect you hate conservative voters, not the religion of Christianity... or would I be wrong? My religious beliefs are that we have all fallen short, all sinned... and Christ created a way for us to enter into God's presence... and I accepted it. What do you hate about that?

And I take no stock n anything a factional character in what a character in an ancient book (that itself is based on even older fairy tales) does or does not preach.
Just cause I read Moby Dick it doesnt make me wanna start a religion wherein I proceed to kill a giant whale.
I believe that Mr. Bill Maher (and many other) say when they say how scary it is when religious fanatics have the amount of control and power they do in this world of ours.
Thats great yo believe in religion though. Nothing I or anyone say could change your mind so I wont even try or get into a debate with you.
Another reason there aren't more pro-religion films made in Hollywood is because it would be propaganda and you are not going to find that many bankable stars or writers or quality directors who would want to be involved in propaganda of that kind. Its why you dont see very many films that are solely about say anti-abortion or anti-smoknig, etc.
And again without going into spoilers Doubt really isnt and anti-religion film and actually has at least one character of faith who I found to be likable which is something I cant say of most films in which members of the church are presented.

Re: Why Does Hollywood Hate Christianity So Much?
So I am browsing through the new releases, and I see this film called Doubt with Philip Seamore Huffman on the cover in a priest garb. I don’t have to even read the film description. I know it is just another slap at the face of Christianity.
Sadly, I can’t recall one single movie by a major studio which portrayed Christianity in a positive light. Into the Wild offered some positive Christian elements, but hard to show that film at a church with the language and nudity. Totally unnecessary. If you can get past the foul language and violent scenes, Shaw shank Redemption and The Green Mile can be seen as Christian analogies. But a film that directly demonstrates Christianity in a positive light? Not a chance.
Whenever we do see Christianity portrayed on film, it is almost always in the form of Catholicism. You have some corrupt priest doing bad things, or a priest losing their faith, or in the case of Sleepers, a priest who will lie for his friends. The fact that Hollywood represents a world where Catholicism is the only form of Christian faith is offensive enough. For the uneducated, many of the Catholic teachings and practices are not even found in the Bible.
So why do we even need movies about Christianity? Because obviously, there is a high demand for it. Fireproof was a grass roots film made outside the Hollywood machinery. The film was a massive success, and even more so on dvd. The dvd remains on Amazon’s bestseller list. The film was also mocked and panned by Hollywood. If it is really that bad, why would people buy the dvd?
There is a huge market for positive Christian films, yet Hollywood’s hatred will not even let profit sway them.

And people weren't buying Fireproof because of the movie, people were buying the movie because it starred Kirk Cameron. The majority of people in the world love Kirk Cameron movies - he's got a presence right up there with Robert DeNiro, Tom Cruise and Christain Bale. Kirk Cameron is such an awesome star, I'll buy any movie that he's in. He's a great actor, he's real, he has charisma, he's just amazing!

DOUBT? DOUBT THIS GUN BLOWING OFF YOUR HEAD, BIOTCH!!!

To answer the question posed in the thread title: because Hollywood is a bunch of closed minded idiots who think that their opinions on religion/life are the only ones that matter.

Nightcrawler and Daredevil are Catholic though. It wasn't a "Hollywood spin" on them, but more of a comic-book spin on two different ideals in religion. Daredevil from the old-world immigrant area New York where many of the lower class Irish and Italians moved. He is contrast personified. He looks evil yet is good, he works outside the law yet is also a lawyer, both more then whole and yet broken at the same time.
Nightcrawler, from France, has many of those same ideas built into him as well. Looks like a demon yet and kind and heroic soul. Growing up my mom hated Daredevil and Nightcrawler (and Venom but it's more poignant to leave him out) because how ugly they looked and I should be ashamed having devils as heroes.
If you want Christains in comics I'm afraid you'll have to go towards the more obscure super heroes like Spiderman, Green Lantern, Captain America, Cyclopes, Robin and Ghost Rider. If only Hollywood would start making movies with those guys in it!

Why does the phrase "close-minded" always come up and always seems to be used in an ultimately ironic way? The complaining Christians seem to be the ones who only want movies made about them and their particular world views; the Hollywood types are the ones making movies about different cultures and ideas.

The best part about the OP is how he cries about how Hollywood hates Christians -- while at the same time taking a swipe at Catholicism.

Re: Why Does Hollywood Hate Christianity So Much?
Isn't this the case with anyone who holds a religious view assuming their particular view is the one and only correct view? IE. every single person who is an evangelical in any religion or anyone who wakes me up on a Saturday morning to tell me about how I need to convert to whatever their belief system is or I'll go to hell?

Matters of taste aside, Bresson is about as far from "Hollywood" as one could imagine. He made very personal films that were never intended to be commercial and he deliberately avoided professional actors. While most of his films are, IMO, masterpieces, he is in no way within the scope of this thread.
