I saw Adventureland over F&F ... it was a good movie ... there was only like 4 showings at my theatre though. You had a choice of 5:20, 8:10 or 10:40 .... not exactly a lot of options

Yeah I have most definitely seen the trailer for this at least half a dozen times n theaters since the trailer first came out. Its been on probably 3 out of every 4 movies I've seen in theaters for months. I saw the F&F trailer once.
I didnt think either film looked particularly good. Renters form Netflix for me for both films.
Vin Diesel looks like he certanly resurrected his career with this one. He now gets a second chance. Lets hope (or not if you are not a fan of what it is he does.) he chooses better (and more impressive films) from here on out.
I saw his Babylon A.D. film last night. It wasnt terrible or anything but it was just kind of a waste. It was so bland and unimpressive and ultimately Diesel just basically was sleepwalking throughout his whole performance.

It is very impressive to see these huge numbers for this film though this time of year.
I wouldnt have guessed more than $33 million at the most for the whole weekend and t looks like it will easily double that.
Universal seriously has gotta be as amazed as I am at how a mediocre racing/action film has become such a successful franchise

Glad that Fast & Furious has done well cause it's one of the better popcorn films that I've seen this year. It knows what it is and knows that it's been made just to entertain people. I just hope that Vin takes and picks some better roles than Babylon A.D. now that he has a hit film again. And leave your ego at the door also.

Re: Box Office 4/3/09 - 4/5/09 - Fast & Furious box office leaves no room for Adventu

Last year, in early December, I saw a trailer featuring a car-and-truck chase with the main car driven by a lead actor who was bald. I got my hopes up thinking the actor would be Jason Statham and the film would be TRANSPORTER 3. As the camera moved around to show the actor's face, my hopes were dashed when I recognized him as Vin Diesel. It was a trailer for this new F&F film. Bummer.

I have yet to see any of the Fast & Furious films. I taped the third one off cable, because it's set in Japan and features a Japanese actress I like in it, but I have yet to watch it.

I find the lead actors in this series completely devoid of charisma. Even a cheesy action franchise needs someone in it whom we want to see on screen. The Transporter films have Jason Statham. TAKEN is a grade-B thriller elevated by Liam Neeson's sharp performance. PUNISHER WAR ZONE had Ray Stevenson, Dominic West and that other madman, the one who played Looney Bin Jim so brilliantly. The best Van Damme and Steven Seagal films had Van Damme and Seagal sort of in their prime (or at least preceding their decline). I'm sorry, but Vin Diesel doesn't rate and I wouldn't know Paul Walker if you showed me a picture of him. Can you say "generic"? Michelle Rodriguez looks interesting to me, but she has yet to appear in anything I want to see.

I've never seen any of the "Fast/Furious" movies, and I sure as hell ain't gonna start now. They pretty much look completely retarded, like mood music for morons, and Vin Diesel has only been good in two movies: one of them he was killed off in the first 45 minutes, the other was an animated film.

Still, can't discount that opening. Damn. Diesel's gonna be doing xXx 3 in a heartbeat.

Um, Transporter 3 had already hit theaters by that point?
