(this one has a nice view of the city - from buidings that no longer exist)
these are my personal favorites, and what I have hanging in my man-cave (slowly being taken over by the little squirt).

Re: Coolest movie poster to hang in my "movie room"
If you don't want to look like a total geek, if you don't want to be cliched, or if you don't want your room to look like a regular video store, get:
1. posters of obscure movies
2. if you want a poster of your favorite movie, then get a foreign poster of that.
How many people in here have movie posters of Godfather, Star Wars, Batman, and Scarface? It's sad, because that's how a child decorates one's room. I like toys, DVDs, movies and comics too, but now that most of us are adults, you should decorate your place in a way that's not like a 12-year old's room. There are ways for geeks to decorate in a "nice way" - the usual problem is the "overkill decoration of a certain genre". Be more selective.

I think if you want the effect you are describing, instead of geeking out on obscurity and foreign stuff, nab a teaser poster. Most are long gone by the time the movie hits and people don't recall what they looked like since the movie wasn't in their conscience at the time. Not to mention they are usually more clever and original than the 'official' poster with the stars names and big heads everywhere.

I vote to permanently ban Good Burger "jokes". I'm pretty sure the expiration date on those was about 6 years ago, not that they were funny in the first place. If Good Burger references were a carton of milk, we'd all be gagging as soon we opened the refrigerator.

Re: Coolest movie poster to hang in my "movie room"
i grabbed those from vintage429.com but not via google. they are a New Orleans based "collectibles" shop that I stumbled in to on a trip there 2 years ago.
even if you go on their site they only show a few of the many they sell at the store. and they are all very pricey. it is a very high end store.
if there was one thing I could have bought (money no issue) it was this...
That's McCartney and Lennon's signatures....
I actually got chills when I saw it in person. They had Beatles posters signed by all 4. Rolling Stones, Sinatra, etc.
They have so much stuff at this store related to music, movies and sports. I think they are probably overpriced but you can tell that it is all real.
My wife did tell me to grab a business card and pick out a poster for my 40th birthday. 5 more years and it is mine!

I'd have to disagree. Sounds like you are just being "that guy" and screams more of a total geek than someone who simply picked up a standard movie poster that they loved.

Re: Coolest movie poster to hang in my "movie room"
I think the keys are framing and placement. There's a big difference between a poster taped to the back of a bedroom door and a poster framed and hung in a movie-watching room.
As far as choice, pick your favorite movie(s). Then pick your favorite posters from those movies. Then, see if there are any ways to group them (genre, color, style, maybe by country if you buy foreign posters, etc.).
If your favorite movie is older, you can probably work one into regular decor pretty easily -- something like a Vertigo or Anatomy of a Murder one sheet might as well be a piece of fine art. Otherwise, a few grouped modern posters can work well together (just having a one sheet for Kindergarten Cop hanging in your living room probably won't look "right," though).
That Out of Sight poster a few have mentioned is one of my favorites for one of my favorite films, so that was a natural choice over here.

unless one is intentionally trying to be tasteless, which is funny then...
Another good thing to do is put your posters next to other artwork, instead of having a whole row of posters next to each other...

Re: Coolest movie poster to hang in my "movie room"
Interesting that it lists "Summer" on the poster. I remember that it came out on 12/19/97 (my birthday). That's pretty cool.
I'd suggest a few guidelines for you. These are just suggestion...
1. Pick something you like. But try to stay away from the 'regulars' or that total pop-culture stuff, no matter how good the movie itself is. If you plan on other people seeing your movie room, find something that will make someone say, 'hey, I remember that movie'. Those are, um, pretty much all of the posters that people have been recommending.
2. Get something that matches or complements the room itself. This will really make your room look perfect. There's plenty of great posters out there to pick out something that'll work with your colors.
3. Find a couple 'foreign' or 'fan' or just 'B' posters. Don't show people the same old thing that they've seen before.
4. On the same note as 2 and 3, get some different sizes and hang them at different levels. The same sizes at the same height does not look cool.
5. Get whatever you think looks good, whatever movies your like and forget everything I just wrote. I'm an idiot and should not be paid attention to.

Re: Coolest movie poster to hang in my "movie room"
Do you think there is one person in the world that has this poster hanging in their room:
It's one of my favorite movies, but I just can't imagine one person in the whole wide world having that poster in their room. It's just wierd...

I like to put up my autographed posters...
I have my Clerks poster up right now. I had A Better Tomorrow up for a while. Looking to frame my original Lethal Weapon poster.
However, I am looking for some way to get Cameron to sign
(I know he rarely does any signings).

Re: Coolest movie poster to hang in my "movie room"
This is good advice. Even if (or, arguably, especially if) you do the whole room in fanboy/geek stuff, there is a great opportunity to track down some very visually stunning posters that never saw the light of day domestically. Some of the Italian posters for the James Bond series, for instance, are simply captivating. There are all kinds of poster books out there you can use to research which ones you really want before you set about finding them.
Here I must strongly disagree. Not only is this a matter of personal taste, but I think there's something to be said about uniformity. This varying size approach can very easily look like the haphazard display of a child's room. Trust me, even if your room is full of Star Wars posters, having them displayed uniformly will make others take it more seriously.

I mostly collect vintage B-movie stuff (mostly Bad Girl and WW2), but will pick something up if it really catches my eye (the French Spirited Away poster, King Arthur, Four Seasons...).
I get a TON of compliments about the '60s and '70s era stuff, all of which were bought for between $5 and $30 on eBay. Haven't seen most of the movies the posters advertise, but they do let visitors know that I'm serious about movies and they're definitely conversation starters in ways that most popular modern movie posters aren't. Just do a search for movie posters on eBay and spend a few hours browsing. "Watch" the posters that catch your eye then narrow down from there.
And I agree 100% on the uniformity thing. All of mine are nicely framed (I use Aaron Bros. weekly 40% off coupons and their buy one, get one for one cent sales), evenly spaced, and at the same height. They look pretty great. (Advice: Hang at eye level, just slightly higher than the mid-way point of the wall. Pictures hung too high look way tacky.)
