The Three Stooges are...

http://joblo.com/index.php?id=25701

Carrey, Penn, Del Toro

You may have heard the rumors but if you're like me, you didn't really think they would pan out. But somehow they have. Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro are set to star in THE THREE STOOGES for the Farrelly Brothers and they're bringing Jim Carrey with them. Del Toro will star as Moe, Penn will star as Larry and Carrey will gain 40 lbs to star as Curly. And I swear this is not an early April Fools gag.

As I mentioned, both Penn and Del Toro had been rumored as possibilities (as had Russell Crowe at one point) but Carrey's name never came up (at least anywhere that I heard). Penn had reportedly been studying with voiceman Billy West (who did an amazing Larry Fine back on the "Howard Stern Show") to get his voice down. As Variety notes, it would be Penn's first comedy since 1989 and a surprising one giving his recent Oscar win for MILK.

Now that the cast is set, the Farrelly brothers will fine tune the script and look to have production underway this fall for MGM. As previously mentioned, this project won't be a biopic but rather a comedy very much the way the Three Stooges would have made a comedy back in their day.

I'm going to move to any place I can find on the map that doesn't have any theaters within at least a 17 mile radius.

Maybe it'll suck, I don't know, but I'm pretty damn curious about this one. Seriously.

I really wanna see what a slapstick movie with Sean Fucking Penn is, it'll probably make his Mystic River and Milk performances look like Spicoli. No, fuck that, this is 200000x sillier than Spicoli, he's playing Larry Fine and he's gonna probably have his Carlito's Way haircut. I really want to see what fat Jim Carrey looks like, and Benicio pulled off crazy/hilarious successfully with Dr. Gonzo, so yeah, I'll see it.

I call bullshit. It's supposed to be a CGI movie, not live action.

If there is truth, I give up.

Re: The Three Stooges are...

casting really isn't too far off when you consider Renee Zellweger (Oscar winner) in "Me, Myself and Irene" and Greg Kinnear (Oscar nominated) and Matt Damon (Oscar winner) as conjoined twins in "Stuck on You".

we know Del Toro can play nutsy (see: Fear and Loathing, The Usual Suspects), of course Carrey, and why not Penn as Moe- the straight man?

not really a huge leap when you break it down like the above.

This movie is going to lose sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much money. Mark my words.

Re: The Three Stooges are...

I think the movie might actually make some money if they go full on comedy with it. Seeing these three stars in an old fashioned slapstick will probably get people interested at least. Heck with a really good trailer this could be a full on hit.

Hmm, intriguing casting, especially Sean Penn (!). If this is confirmed, my interest level will have gone from non-existent to medium. A biopic would have been far more appealing, as there is certainly a dark side to the Stooges worth exploring.

How close are we to April Fool's Day?

Here we go again people dissing a product before it's done.
Are these the same people that didn't like Danial Craig's casting of James Bond or Heath Ledger's casting as the Joker?
Grow up!

We're dissing the idea, not the product.

Fine. You go see it first and tell the rest of us what it's like.

Who the hell is complaining about the casting? We're bitching about the film ITSELF. This is stupid. The Stooges don't need to be tamepered with. Sorry, it's just a terrible idea. There's a reason it's been in development hell for well over 10 years. And that's not because they couldn't find anybody right for the part.

I think it's pretty interesting casting. I don't really care about the Stooges so seeing Penn or Del Toro do this intrigues me.

Just was thinking about this:

Between this and Tom Hanks' new project, I'm currently awaiting confirmation to the rumors that Daniel Day-Lewis will play Shredder in an upcoming live-action reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Imagine the method acting there, eating nothing but turtle soup during the entire shoot.

I can totally see Penn as Larry. The other two, not so much.

Third. I haven't seen much of the Stooges, but if this news is true, I'm definitely interested. Have to say, though, this came out of nowhere. When I clicked on the thread title, I was expecting a bunch of no names, or maybe, like, Jason Biggs, or someone. Sean Penn, that's insane....

I don't see why Stooges fans would be upset over this. If anything, it's going to prompt a lot of people, myself included, to check out the originals.
