Now, this being a TV show, why is it not in TV Talk?

Just in case I don't make it to the end, is 30 minutes of DVR padding enough?

Also, is Hugh Jackman funny enough to pull off hosting?

It was decided in a poll to have the discussion in movie talk since it is more about the films than the show itself.

I have no clue as to why the academy thought Jackman would make a good host. He doesn't come off as being funny.

Are these being streamed live on the net anywhere? Like ABC.com or anything?
I got rid of my cable a few months back and the only network channel I get is NBC now.

In attempt to stave off the inevitable outrage: please note that Heath Ledger will not be shown in this years "In Memoriam" as he was honored last year.

He should be honored this year, next year and every year thereafter. He was the BEST Joker EVER.

That should be made a sticky.

Not excited about the host at all. When's Colbert doing this?

I'm a bit surprised that the Best Supporting Actor is so far away from Best Supporting Actress. Don't they usually go one after another?

if they did both supporting awards first, the Dark Knight fanboys would turn off as soon as heath won

Plus, they have the documentary awards after that to help lull them to sleep.

BTW, I know it's early, but who do you think will present the award for supporting actress next year? Will it be one of the other supporting actor nominees from this year, or a friend of Ledger's?

They don't send out a list of winners to the "officers". The results are only known by a handful of accountants. Anybody could have faked that letter given MS Word and 30 seconds.

What's the over/under on how long the whining will last after the winners have been announced?

I'm still pissed that Wings beat out 7th Heaven.

I was watching Olbermann's show and he had a guy on there who does predictions (who predicted the Rays making the world series, and got 49 out of 50 states right for the election). His only somewhat out there prediction is Taraji P. Henson in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button? He thinks that because the acadamy would want to give Ben Button at least one big award.

That reasoning would make sense if the Academy decided the awards by deliberating together in a big room, which they don't.

I think most of that took place when the nominations were announced. I think Mickey Rourke has a very good shot, but other than him not winning, I don't see much happening that would get people upset (unless you hate Slumdog Millionaire). Some people might get miffed if The Dark Knight doesn't win anything else, but those awards don't draw the controversy that the big ones get.

Well, there is the small possibility that Wall-E might not win for animated feature, since Kung-Fu Panda won the Annie award. That would certainly tick off some people. I know I'd be disappointed.

You'd think after the Rathergate debacle in 2004 that people take these types of letters with a BIG block of salt.

That reminds me of 10 years back, when Stanely Kubrick was honored during the 1999 Oscars, before the release of Eyes Wide Shut, and then a lot of people seemed to have forgotten as they were wondering why Kubrick wasn't honored during the next year's Oscars.

I even remember that ass Michael Medvead on Politicaly Incorrect discussing Eyes Wide Shut and saying, in all sincerity, "The Academy hated the movie so much they wouldn't put Kubrick in the Memoriam."
