Re: The 81st Academy Awards — 2008 Awards Show Discussion.

So looking at the schedule, one just needs to tune in to the first 20 minutes or so (want to see if In Bruges gets some love, in addition to the supporting actress) and then catch the last 40minutes or so. And I don't get putting best actor in a supporting role in the middle as it is a foregone conclusion and it should be done with supporting actress. I suppose it is to wake people up when the award is given out? (as there will no doubt be a spontaneous standing ovation)

So after takin a few hour nap, should I just assume the last few major awards will be ~40-60 minutes behind schedule?

(Damn I'm cynical or am I just a realist? )

Just what I think/hope will happen
Spoiler:
I think Frost/Nixon will sweep most including Picture, Directing & Actor and Slumdog will be shut out of the big ones. Brolin in Milk (not Ledger), Tomei in Wrestler, Langella in Frost/Nixon.

Anyone watching one of the multitude of Red Carpet shows?

Phoebe Cates still looks DAMN GOOD. She doesn't look like she's aged a bit. Kevin is freakin' lucky. Damn him... damn him all to hell

Why are they interviewing her? She hasn't appeared in a film in 15 years.

Aren't they sending the presenters through the back door so you have to watch the show to see their outfits?

CNN seems to believe that if you put huge bars on the side of the screen with the letters HD on them then it's automatically HD. I guess they stopped giving a shit after the election.

I'm watching the Barbera Walters special for the sole reason to see Mickey Rourke, because Mickey Rourke is the best interview you could ask for. But I turn it on and she opens with the fucking Jonas Brothers. I'm confuzzled.

he would obviously be at the end bc he is the draw this year. the Stupid Bros. are just to skew to a young audience who don't even know who the hell Walters is.

it seems all she wants to get at are the buttons that send the emotions into overdrive. if an interviewee doesn't cry, i think she thinks, she has failed.

^ Yes, but Havoc was the first movie where she wanted to stop being the Disney actress and show her rack.

My thoughts exactly. It also showed fucking 9 1/2 Weeks as a bad decision. Rourke wasn't a joke by 1990; that was when you could tell he was slipping. But whatever, 'cause Rourke is still so damn awesome. Seriously, there isn't a pretentious bone in this dude's body.

But I liked how Anne Hathaway seemed almost like a normal person in this interview. At that Oscar roundtable she was at with Pitt, Rourke, Hawkins, Langella and Downey, she seemed like she was giving answers she thought people wanted to hear, and Downey just kind of looked at her the whole time with this "just shut UP already face." This was way better.

"You can't eat it, you can't fuck it and it won't get me into heaven"

I bet Walters wanted to call him a potty mouth.

Oh, I knew he wasn't going first. I just want to know what they hell they're doing on the Oscar special. I bet they're presenting, and they're going to do it in that shitty "oh my God people are famous here! And not our kind of fame; real fame! Let's try to make an awkward joke now" thing that they do, and it will make the Oscars even worse.
