"The Thing" is the only better remake of these choices.

I would say either The Thing or Cape Fear

Outta those I'd have to go with The Thing

The original of The Thing is The Thing From Another World (1951). A similarly titled film to It Came from Outer Space, It! The Terror from Beyond Space (1958), was remade as Alien.

It's almost not fair to include The Thing here, because it always wins. But it needs to be included in every poll, because it is that awesome.

Close second: The Fly.

i know it has its' detractors, but i think De Palma's "Scarface" is epic and i've seen it the most over time, though it really has very little to do with the 32 original.

The Maltese Falcon-previously made as Satan Met a Lady.

Not a remake. That's like saying the TV movie version of "The Shining" is a remake of the Kubrick film.

The Thing. Best Remake, Best Horror, ever.

I'm not going to view this as "Best Americanized foreign film," so I won't choose The Departed. In that case, The Thing gets my vote. Carpenter's best film (except for They Live :D), and a touchstone of the horror genre.

The Fly by a longshot. The rest of those movies listed suck.

Say this outloud: Ocean's Eleven is better than The Thing.

Are you laughing yet?

That's a good list of remakes.

The only one that doesn't belong (imo) is the 2005 Kong. How anyone could like that more than the original (or even the 1976 version) is beyond my comprehension.

I don't follow your logic. The Maltese Falcon by D. Hammett was made into the movie Satan Was A Lady which wasn't very good. It then was filmed again and kept it's original title. Not a remake?

Great answer. I forgot about the original(s). The 1959 remake is the best movie of all time.

i dunno,

but i would like to see a remake of an 80's movie. (comedy, classic)
'midnight madness'

i believe it was michael j. fox's first movie role. (hes not the main character)
not to mention paul reubens (pee wee herman) had a role too.

... or is there one?

They made one in 1931 titled The Maltese Falcon, they later remade it in '36 as Satan Was A Lady, and then again in '41 as The Maltese Falcon.

I consider it a remake. 10 yrs and 3 films based on the same story. Sounds like a remake to me...
