Everything was great until I saw Ellen Page's name in the credits, I will not be seeing this! ;)

^ Can't say I disagree. Teaser looked interesting but I'd hardly call it awesome. Having Nolan's name attached to something doesn't automatically make it amazing, even though he has yet to turn in a total turd.

What did he have that was close to a turd?

He has a pretty good batting average to me

Nothing, really. Some people argue that Insomnia is weak (I'm not one of them), so I'm not going to say everything he's done has been universally-hailed. Also, though it was interesting for a debut feature, Following isn't terribly strong, IMO.

Oh yea, I almost forgot about The Prestige. Good movie, but I think people give it far more praise than it deserves. Personally, I thought The Illusionist was a better film.

However, as far as I'm concerned he is one of the best directors working today.

I like how WB was quick to get a teaser trailer out to offset the Inception-as-a-keyword-for-Batman 3 theories. Trailer did EXACTLY what it was supposed to do: entice with interest regarding the sci-fi premise, give a taste of the lead actor, and barely whet the audience's appetite in anticipation for July of next year.

I thought that was a great teaser. It left you wanting to know more about the concept and the story. I love when teasers do that. Too many people expect something along the lines of your typical Robert Zemeckis shit in which the whole film is spelled out for you in easily-digestible nuggets.

It's funny, though, I look forward to Nolan's films like I *used* to look forward to Fincher's...

This teaser really screams Fincher to me. Which is good. Now that they've headlined the teaser with "The Director of The Dark Knight" it'll get some assured bank cuz people can only wonder how cool this guy's next project would be.

Looks great. Minus Ellen Page, the cast is solid. Although I like Hans Zimmer, I was hoping David Julyan was going to score this one. I loved his work on The Prestige and The Decent. If I recall correctly, he aslo scored Insomnia and Memento.

I still stand by the Strange Days comparison I made, looks very Matrix-y and Blade Runner-esque.

Also heard that Tom Berenger is going to be in it! Nolan really knows how to cast old-school actors in his stuff: Rutger Hauer in Batman Begins, Eric Roberts and Anthony Michael Hall in The Dark Knight, giving Bowie his first acting gig in too long in The Prestige...

I got a Dark City vibe from the teaser. From what little was shown, it was quite intriguing and I'm looking forward to seeing it.

I like Ellen Page. :( She was phenomenal in HARD CANDY.

Re: Inception (Nolan, 2010): Contemporary Sci-fi/Action

^ I find her underwhelming. She's not terrible and I don't want to punch her in the face as some here do but I do find her woefully overrated. And I think she seems out of place with a cast of this caliber (yes, including Berenger). It's the same way I felt about Katie Holmes in Batman Begins.

"Your mind is the scene of the crime" followed by people jumping around in mid-air. Great, audiences everywhere were clamoring for The Matrix 4.

The difference would be that Nolan likes to do as much in camera effects as possible. Wachowskis sadly went too much into the CG realm by the 3rd one.

Didn't realize Ellen Page was in this. Maybe Nolan can shape her into being something other than an insufferable bitch.

this is what I am hoping for. She's cute and not half as stupid as most of the girls her age in Hollywood are, so the right filmmaker could put her to good use. As seen in Hard Candy, not so much in Juno.

I hated her in Hard Candy. That movie made me sympathize with a pedophile, not because of the torture he went through, but because he, like myself, had to listen to Ellen Page for 89 minutes. I'm thinking maybe I'd like her if she played a deaf mute.

:lol::up:

Although the role of insufferable bitch seems to be one that all casting directors offer her. Even when she was in Law & Order: SVU. I think the only likable character she's portrayed thus far was Kitty in X-Men: The Last Stand. Of course they then chose to make Anna Paquin into a bitch to offset the niceness of Ellen Page's character in that one.

Yeah, and she seemed cuter in X3 as well. But then, X3 is an utter abomination, so Page is really doing poorly.

doing poorly as in booking the next Chris Nolan film and being nominated for Best Actress or doing poorly failing to ingnite the admiration of the internet community?

The latter, obviously.

Edit: I wouldn't be so quick to put stock in her Oscar nomination, as it was part of a general nomination sweep for Juno that spoke more to Fox Searchlight's marketing and politicking than it did any true quality on the part of the film. Had she been nominated without any other nominations for Juno, I could at least then say that the Oscar voters considered her and her performance alone, but clearly it was part of an undeserved zeitgeist.
