Giant robots are awesome. Having DiCaprio enter someone's dreams to steal secrets is LAME!!!!

Ash, it's labeled as a "Science Fiction Action Film". Key word being fiction. Nobody is claiming that in real life we can go into people's minds and steal secrets. Jesus I can't believe this discussion is even happening.

I'm just a little stunned how hyped everyone is over this film. It was done once before, it was called Dark City.

but this will be 100x better than Dark City, so....

Actually, it reminds me of Dreamscape.

Dark City is pretty awesome. While I bet Inception will be great, I doubt it will be 100x better.

If Inception is better than Dark City I will be very impressed.

As someone who thinks the word "overrated" was created to describe the movie The Dark Knight I think Inception actually looks pretty good. I hardly ever go to the movies anymore since they mostly suck and people can't shut the fuck up during them. But I am going to give this one a shot.

If Inception isn't better than Dark City then I will be disappointed.

I don't see how Inception could be better than Dark City. That movie was fucking awesome!

Let's hope Inception is better than Dreamscape. Which wasn't a bad movie by any stretch.

I rewatched it recently and it didn't really hold up for me. It's a good mystery/noir story but falls apart during the climactic scenes and fight, which I found laughable.

Eh, depends on what you think of Insomnia.

I enjoyed it actually. It is definitely second tier Nolan, but it was still pretty good. I wouldn't count it as a failure by any means.

I thought it was disappointing coming off Memento and is a pale shadow of the original Insomnia. I've never felt the need to rewatch it, whereas I've seen the original Insomnia five or six times.

See I've never seen the original and didn't have any expectations with Nolan's version, so I found it surprisingly good. I guess it just depends on the circumstances in which you saw it. But I can see what you are saying, it's no Memento or The Dark Knight, that's for sure.

5-1 at best.
(haven't seen Insomnia, Following, or Doodlebug)

Memento = fail.

The first viewing I found it interesting.

Second viewing is when I realized just how big of a fail that movie is.

Hmm. What are your thoughts on Following?

You know...there are a lot of non mainstream movies, independent and foreign movies that could probably make up for what you think might suck. There's always been crap and there's always been good movies. Hand in hand. Last good movie I went to was Toy Story 3 and before that, which is controversial so far on here, was A-Team.

I like Dark City, it's production design is awesome but...

THIS is truth. The idea and the world is great but the ending is weak. LOVE it's noir inspired visuals and landscape w/ the science fiction but once
Spoiler:
Jack is taken into the baddies' lair it gets weak...really cartoonish really...I like it..but it hasn't aged well, this part specifically, and the ending is just kind of rushed from there. It's like they had to end it so they just put as much as they could to make an ending. I like the film but I do recognize it's faults.

Hahaha.... get out of this thread. It's his best movie.

Just kidding on the getting outta here part... kinda.

I think he lost most people's respect when he started naming what he thought were great movies. I hate using that as an excuse...he's kinda like chris_sc77...but...like a younger version of him.

I don't like when people feel like they have to justify the films they like to others and then be looked down upon when someone feels like the movies that they like are shit. If someone thinks a movie is great and you don't then so be it. My wife thinks The Notebook is great but me not so much but who is to say. She puts up with my fandom of Rush and Dave Matthews Band so that is the way it goes.

It's funny because Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is your favorite movie of '09.
