Favorite Horror Franchise (3 or more films)?
Now that I am re-visitng all the "Friday" films, i have to say they are a good time. cheesy, bad acted good time, but fun nonetheless. he kills with such passion and almost for no reason that it is scary to think about someone like that around. "Jason Goes To Hell" and "Jason X" have always been "bad movies i love" and with the new one coming up...
even though Freddy is my first love, going back to those don't hold up to well for me. but, Romero's "of the Dead" series while technically might not fall into this category of the mostly slasher films, it is the best, smartest series of all horror time, despite a lackluster "Land of the Dead" (though i still really like this one) and "Diary of the Dead".
these franchises can include the remakes even though may not be same production company.
also, an interesting read about most lucrative horror franchise of all time...

edit...forgot to include "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre". my bad. i am gonna try and have a mod switch "Pumpkinhead" for it, so maybe hold off if that is your choice.

Re: Favorite Horror Franchise (3 or more films)?
Very difficult question.
I love all of these. I know it's just me, but I've always thought Halloween was a bit overrated. I do like it though.
I too have been going back and watching all of the Friday the 13ths in anticipation of the new one coming out Friday. Currently at Part VII. These films are a level of campiness that I don't think anyone has achieved since.
Ultimately I had to go with Romero's Dead series. When I was 10 years old, I remember waking up one night at like 2 in the morning and couldn't go back to sleep. Turned on the tv and caught a showing of Night of the Living Dead on some channel. That was my introduction to horror and I've been hooked ever since.

How did you forget Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Phantasm, or Hellraiser? They should have been on the poll no matter what. Plus you didn't mention Re-Animator, Candyman, Psycho, Hannibal, Maniac Cop, Leprechaun, Puppet Master, Return of the Living Dead, Basket Case, Night of the Demons, Hills have Eyes, plus alot more....

i finally went with "Friday the 13th". i just find some of them eminently rewatchable (Jason X, especially), more so than Romero.

I know that but the main point was you didn't put the top three in the poll....
Which is blasphemy for a horror franchise discussion/poll....
Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Phantasm, Hellraiser > Scream/Saw/Pumpkinhead/Child's Play

Texas Chainsaw - loved parts 1 and 2, but after that.....blah.
Phantasm and Hellraiser I absolutely love. The last 3 Hellraisers have been major let downs though.
Re-Animator - 1 and 2 were brilliant while 3 dropped off just a bit.
Candyman - I enjoyed only the first.
Psycho - the first a classic. 2 and 3 were pretty good as well, but 4 is a stinker.
Hannibal - never really got into the whole series.
Maniac Cop - only saw 1, but I loved it.
Leprechaun - 1 was good, with the rest of the series being lackluster except for the sheer hilariousness of Leprechaun in tha Hood.
Puppet Master - one of the reasons I love Charlie Band so. Full Moon never got the respect it deserved.
Return of the Living Dead - loved every one of them except for Necropolis.
Basket Case - Henenlotter's opus that spawned a whole generation of New York City Sleaze. You gotta love these.
Night of the Demons - all of my friend's would argue that this is the greatest series of all-time.
Hills Have Eyes - great film from Mr Craven, but it's one where I actually liked the remake a lot better.

you have to cater to old and new minds alike. i admit to TCM and trying to have that changed. i think most would agree that Pinhead and the Hellraiser franchise hit a snag after 2 and Phantasm wasn't even that good at Part I. not to mention that many are still going...

Well considering the ones you put you didn't really cater to "newer" fans except for Saw & I guess Scream (which isn't great except 1). I love both Child's Play & Pumpkinhead but they are much older than the two above. Then on to the rest of your reply, Well Obviously I don't agree with that.... lol I enjoyed Hellraiser 1,2,3, & 4 plus 5 & 6 were good but had nothing to do with Pinhead. Phantasm is amazing & they were all top notch except IV.

The Friday flicks aren't the best movies out there but they've always been favorites of mine so that gets my vote.

Friday the 13th is the first franchise I started watching so I think it will always be my favorite.

'Saw' Is Now the Most Lucrative Horror Franchise in History

When you shelled out nine bucks this weekend to see if Jigsaw would do anything new in Saw V (answer: nope), you were also contributing to a milestone. With the Friday-Sunday $30 million haul, the Saw series is now the highest grossing horror franchise in history, with a cumulative domestic gross of $316 million. Just think of all the microcassette tapes and countdown timers that kind of money could buy!
Of course, the other heavy hitters in this field -- Halloween, Friday the 13th, and A Nightmare on Elm Street -- were mostly released in the 1980s, when movie tickets were a lot cheaper. It's no surprise that a franchise launched in the 2000s would be more lucrative. Still, Saw has made its loot in just five films, compared to Elm Street's eight (including Freddy vs. Jason), Halloween's nine (including last year's remake), and Friday the 13th's eleven (including Freddy vs. Jason again).
A curious fact: Prior to this weekend, the race was surprisingly close. Box Office Mojo has the Friday the 13th series at $315 million, Elm Street at $307 million, and Halloween at $275 million. (Lionsgate's press release touting the Saw achievement has the Halloween series at $307 million, but I don't know where they're getting that from.)
But Jigsaw shouldn't rest on his laurels just yet. The Friday the 13th reboot due in February is liable to put Jason Voorhees in the lead again, although that will be short-lived if the seemingly inevitable Saw VI does indeed appear next October. If the Friday remake is successful, though, it could lead to more sequels and more competition. Personally, I'd rather have a mute, hockey-masked punisher as the all-time box office champ over a cancer-brained faux-intellectual who can't shut up. But that's just me! You can vote however you want. In the meantime, congrats to Saw for out-grossing Freddy, Michael, and Jason, and congrats to me for not making a pun on the word "grossing."

God, I hate all those franchises...the only one that I like is the Dead franchise...of course...that only has 2 good films. Day was way under budget, though that dream by the woman was pretty badass, and Land was just horrible. And I only liked Silence of The Lambs for the Hannibal series.

I wanted to go with Halloween, because I love the original, but with the 3+ films criteria, I gotta go with Saw, because as a whole I enjoy the movies more than Halloween.

I guess I would have to go with Saw because a) It's my current obsession b) There is actual character development and a story that interconnects.

I only went with Romero as the first two films in that series have more quality and substance than everything else on the list combined. It's too bad Day and Land just feel incomplete and Diary is just a piece of flaming horse shit.
The runner-up would've been The Evil Dead series followed by A Nightmare on Elm Street.
