At least the Robocop remake kinda TRIED to capture and update the themes from the original? This looks like... man, I don't even know

As for Skarsgård’s chiseled and menacingly inked-up “dude with the dragon tattoo” look in the second half of the film (see photo of him standing in front of a mirror), Sanders says that his inspiration was less cribbed from O’Barr’s graphic novel or Lee’s previous incarnation than from his own life. “I think the beauty of Bill is that he has a disturbing beauty, and as he transforms through his loss he becomes this thing that even he can’t control. It’s that famous line: ‘Whoever fights monsters must be careful that they don’t become one.’ That look was me in the ’90s when we were squat-raving in London, [mixed with some modern influences] like Post Malone and Lil Peep. I hope people who are 19 today look at him and go, ‘That guy is us.’” That image captures the beginning of his transformation into the Crow. “It’s the moment we realize bad things are coming.”

Does that mean all of his dialogue will be autotuned?

Jared Leto Joker: Strike one
Post Malone influence: strike two

Now all we need is to find out that Nicki Minaj is doing the soundtrack.

Jason Momoa would have been perfect for the role. Looks like this movie will eventually be more about eating crow than filming it.

I'll kind of reserve judgement until I see a trailer, but I don't see any appetite for a new Crow movie. Especially in a prime summer month like June.

I said it before I think. It has to be violent and explosive, grunge aesthetic, with that mournful feel. To me, that's The Crow.

When he's taping the dude to the car seat and the dude is scared and remorseful. That's why The Crow is special.

None of them have done it since. One hit wonder.

When did they recast the role of Eric Driven with Pete Davidson?

It's not as if the original character wasn't also silly looking. The new version is simply silly looking in a different way.

That's why the last Crow low-key pulled Twilight numbers. Bet.

I had zero interest in this before, but seeing the picture of the Leto Crow, somehow I now have negative interest in it.

The original comic book character has a pretty iconic look. I wouldn't go so far as to say "silly." The guy with all of the shitty tattoos just looks really 2020s and will date fast.

If there's one movie that didn't need to be remade, it's The Crow. Brandon Lee's performance will never be topped. If you are a pro wrestling fan, you will get a kick out of this.

Honestly, I never got the love for the original, even when I was an angsty teen.

It has nothing to do with being an angsty teen. It's a revenge flick. That's it. And it's one of the finest there is.

The original Crow with Brandon Lee is the only one I need, it's perfect just the way it is. I have 0 interest in this remake.

Re: The Crow (2024, D: Sanders) -- S: Bill Skarsgard

For me The Crow has always been one of those movies that gets overshadowed by the real life tragedy.

The movie itself is fine enough but I’ve never viewed it as highly as a lot of people. I think Eric Draven has a cool look as does the movie itself, but it’s kind of a so-so movie in my view and definitely feels like a product of the time.

Re: The Crow (2024, D: Sanders) -- S: Bill Skarsgard

I just tried to watch The Crow Salvation. It's barely a movie. The tone and editing is terrible. It has big leaps in basic logic.

The concept itself should be as reusable as a zombie movie. Wrongful death -> crow -> revenge.

Get someone who has a good eye and a good feel for making movies in 2024, and it should be a pretty good movie.

I still hope it's good. These have been like the Alien movies, where they're not good, but somewhere someone with money doesn't want to give up on the idea.

Re: The Crow (2024, D: Sanders) -- S: Bill Skarsgard

There have been enough shitty entries in The Crow franchise that one more isn't the end of the world (spoken by someone who paid money to watch City of Angels in the theater).

Do I hope it forges its own path and makes something relevant and good...sure!

It's also a highly influential movie like Blade Runner, where you can see how it changed cinema, and its influence is all over things like The Matrix and John Wick. It also opened the floodgates for comic book adaptions that weren't A-list superheroes like Batman and Superman (like Blade a few years later), or even comics books that featured no superheroes at all like The Walking Dead. It also brought gothic and industrial aesthetics into the mainstream.

And the soundtrack is absolutely killer.

Salvation is my favorite of the sequels (though that is very faint praise) only because it tried to do something a bit different where the central revenge plot is set up as a mystery where the Crow has to figure out who he's supposed to kill.

City of Angels is just a complete rehash of the first film and falls flat because of that even though it's fairly well-made. And Wicked Prayer is just a complete clusterfuck. I would assume that it was based on an unrelated spec script that had the Crow mythology grafted onto it at the last minute, but it was actually based on a Crow spin-off novel by Norman Partridge (who is a pretty decent author and short story writer).

Wicked Prayer was one of the two Crow spin-off novels that I read (the other being Lazarus Heart by Poppy Z. Brite) because I was fans of the authors. I don't remember much about the Wicked Prayer novel, or if it was as bad as the movie, but I can't imagine it was.
