1. Role Models is by far the funniest movie of the year - it's the only movie i've seen twice in the theaters all year.
2. Kabluey and Pineapple Express are tied.
3. Tropic Thunder
4. Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Sex Drive would come in at 2nd, and its a shame more people didn't see this. I'd follow that up with Tropic Thunder, Pineapple Express, and Role Models.

I've only seen two thus far and would place them as such:

Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Zack & Miri Make a Porno

2008 has been a great year for comedy, specifically R-rated comedies.

Top 5 for me would have to be:

1. Tropic Thunder
2. In Bruges
3. Role Models
4. Forgetting Sarah Marshall
5. Sex Drive

Honorable mentions: Harold & Kumar 2, Pineapple Express, Zack & Miri Make a Porno, Get Smart

Forgetting Sarah Marshall, easily. Definitely the funniest, sweetest movie I've seen in a long time. I actually enjoyed it more than Knocked Up and The 40-Year Virgin.

1. Forgetting Sarah Marshall
2. Tropic Thunder
3. Burn After Reading
4. Pineapple Express
...
5. Step Brothers
6. The Foot Fist Way

Haven't seen Role Models, Get Smart, Love Guru (Yeah, prolly won't be), Sex Drive, In Bruges or Zack and Miri yet. Big to all the R-rated comedies this year.

For me, it was My Winnipeg even though it may not necessarily be entirely classified as a comedy.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall is my choice as well. I really liked some of Tropic Thunder (especially Downey, Jr and Tom Cruise), but it wasn't consistantly funny enough for me.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Tropic Thunder had some great scenes but I remember checking the time several times.

Glad to see lots of people saw In Bruges. That is easily in my top 5 movies of the year, but I'd call it more of a dramedy (wickedly funny but the sombre tone knocks it out of the same grouping as say FSM or TT), so I didn't mention it.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Tropic Thunder, Step Brothers and Role Models were all pretty solid for me. I think it's a tie between Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Tropic Thunder.

Still waiting on an R1 release of this one. The combination of Guy Maddin and Ann Savage is quite intriguing.

Am I the only one who find it funny people are picking the same movies here as the worst in 2008 thread?

Since this is a Weinstein release, the DVD has been out at Blockbuster for a few weeks now even though the retail release is a ways off still.

I guess there's a reason to visit a Blockbuster after all.

It seems Philip Seymour Hoffman has starred in my favorite comedies of 2007 (The Savages) and 2008 (Synecdoche, New York).

While Synecdoche, New York has some funny parts (including what I think is the best/strangest gag all year), I'd hesitate it to call it a comedy.

This is a movie I really wanted to see in the theater, but never made time for.

One definition of comedy is "a ludicrous or farcical event or series of events." That's a pretty apt description of Synecdoche, New York.
