I thought the first HP was pretty close to the book.

The first two Harry Potter films are enjoyable, but Cuarón took the third to an entirely new level and changed the game for the remainder of the sequels.

Then again, that's what happens when you hire a director who contains talent. Four and five weren't as good, but they were better than the first two.

And remember TOMB RAIDER. Sometimes the studios do listen like still no sequal to PLANET OF THE APES, GODZILLA.

They're may be another "reboot" of Planet in our future. FOX is developing a script that is a quasi-remake of Conquest.

Solace was okay. the directing was decent but all in all it was very bland. And what was with the writer feeling the need to throw in a chase for every sort of trasnportation. planes, cars, boats, jesus all that was missing was a unicycle chase. hopefully they'll learn their lesson with the next one.

Can't believe there was no sequel to Independence Day.

Thank God there wasn't a sequel to Independence Day. I saw that movie 3 times in the theater. I loved it. But the day it came out on VHS I went and bought it and the movie had already lost a large part of its entertainment value somehow. I was in middle school at the time. I watch the movie now and am amused by the destruction scenes, but the movie is pretty bad.

The sequence in which their dog soared through the air to avoid an impending fireball scaled the heights of absurdity.

And as someone who saw it at an advance screening twice, all I can say is this puts Twilight's numbers to shame. It's average screen take was higher, and for good reason: Because it's a great movie that deserves to do amazing business. Guarantee those numbers will go up during Thanksgiving (and on more screens too).

It deserves every penny of it!

It kills me that Twilight made more in it's three days than six of the films combined currently sitting in my Top 10 of 2008.

Those films being:

Repo! The Genetic Opera
The Signal
Sex Drive
Speed Racer
In Bruges
Doomsday

Then again, this year also sucks if those are the films I'm considering to be the best of 2008.
