And for those saying Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Pineapple Express and Tropic Thunder, you need to see more comedies. |

1. It took 34 posts until the worst comedy I saw this year was posted (You Don't Mess With The Zohan). 2. That this many people on the forum actually watched The Love Guru. = J You twenty or so people who admitted seeing this film, why? Did you all lose bets? |
Haven't seen Love Guru, and I probably will not.
Mad Money - Diane Keaton, Queen Latifah, Katie Holmes. AWFUL. Witless Protection - Larry the Cable Guy. Lame, but a couple of mildly funny gags. |

I see it diffrently. If you thought any three of those movies were going to have any entertainment value going in you need your head checked. To me whats worse is walking into a movie fully expecting to be entertained, and not a laugh is to be found. For me that was Tropic Thunder. I havent been that dissapointed in a comedy in awhile. It was bad.

Ok Mr. High & Mighty... enlighten us. You call us out for liking the highly successful (and damn funny) films of the year, and you seem to have this impeccable taste in comedies, yet you give us no examples of which movies are worthy to be deemed the best of the year.

And I'll say the same to you about naming "Hamlet 2" as one of 2008 worst comedies. No way. It's right up there with "Marshall" and "Thunder" as one of the year's best. And even if you hated it, it does not deserve to placed in the same league as those "Disaster Movie" spoof type films.
Do I feel that Hamlet 2 should be listen in the same post as Disaster Movie, Superhero Movie, and Disaster Movie? Yes. Cause nobody tried to make any of those films work. Dialogue alone does not make a movie really really funny , you need physical comedy combined with funny dialogue to make a movie really funny. And Jude Apatow movies are mostly based in dialogue, curses, and drama. Ok Mr. High & Mighty... enlighten us. I haven't seen the Love Guru or any of the Disaster Movie spoofs..thank God. I would say the worse that I have seen would have to be You Don't Mess With the Zohan
|
You Don't Mess With The Zohan
If Sandler can recover from that POS I will be suprised. Won't see the Love Guru or any of the Spoof movies. I don't have enough time to watch movies I "want" to see. |

I made it through 5 minutes of The Love Guru, I was not impressed.
|
You Don't Mess With the Zohan was not even accidentally funny. Real shame.
EDIT: After looking over some previous posts, I've realized that I have not seen Disaster Movie Meet the Spartans The Love Guru Made of Honor If there is a similiar thread of Best Comedy of 2008, I definitely have a few suggestions. |

Unless you're one of those people who think watching someone get smacked in the nuts is inherently "hysterical". |

Hamlet 2 is a film consisting of lots of great ideas just scattered all over the place with a director and writer not knowing what to do with them and not trying to make any of them work. Instead, they use shittier ideas to progress the story further. The film could've had the same, shitty impact clocking in at 70 minutes rather by deleting the whole Keener / Arquette subplot than being dragged out for 90. There was a brief glimmer of hope during the actual play portion of the film, but that was it.

I still can't believe anyone can shit on Sarah Marshall. Too much drama? I don't remember going 5 minutes without laughing. Plus, the dramatic elements work. It's not like Old School or Dodgeball or countless other comedies where the "story" gets in the way of the comedy. It's not a movie where the story is just a skeleton to hang a bunch of bits together. It doesn't drag the movie to a halt. I was completely engrossed in those scenes because every performance in that movie works the way it is supposed to (except for Jonah Hill who was just OK).
|
Well I will never watch any of those spoof movies and I didnt see Zohan or Love Guru either... I did see Made of Honor which was just ridiculously bad but I knew that, it was a wife movie. My vote goes to Pineapple Express because I was so terribly disappointed in it. I was expecting much more, and with the exception of Danny McBride, it really didn't make me laugh much at all.

"for those saying Tropic Thunder and Sarah Marshall are the best of the year...need to see more comedies" why would he say "you need to see more comedies if you think Tropic Thunder is bad so that you can see other comedies that are far worse?" I dont know, whatever. |
Get Smart was just painfully unfunny (and I love Steve Carrell)
Zach and Miri was a huge disappointment |
