Forgetting Sarah Marshall was the funniest movie I've seen all year, I don't know how people claim it isn't funny. The dialogue is priceless.

Step Brothers is the only one I saw (and not by choice), so it's the clear winner for me.
|
The Love Guru hands down... I although I knew better than to see Meet the Spartans of An American Carol.
|
Pineapple Express was the worst one I saw. It was a far better action movie than a comedy.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall was also more of a drama than I was expecting, but it had more than enough laughs to work as a comedy as well. |
Love Guru followed by Meet the Spartans
|
Love Guru was the worst movie I've seen in ages.
|
A tie between Disaster Movie and The Love Guru.
|
I have not seen that many comedies this year, but of the ones I've seen probably You Don't Mess with the Zohan would get my vote. If we include "Romantic comedies" I would also say Made of Honor was painfully awful.
|
Three-way tie.
Meet the Spartans Superhero Movie Disaster Movie The Love Guru may be shit, but it doesn't match the pure wretchedness of those three. Hamlet 2 was a major disappointment in my eyes, but at least it was an interesting failure. And for those saying Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Pineapple Express and Tropic Thunder, you need to see more comedies. |
^ Yeah, all of three of these sucked.
|
meet the spartans and the love guru
|
Meet The Spartans stinks!
|
An American Carol and Disaster Movie probably take the cake.
Have not seen either. But the commercials forced my family to put me in a rubber room for the duration of their runs. |
Saw License to Wed on a plane, and that was pretty terrible. (Not sure if it came out this year though.) Strange Wilderness was awful. Peter Dante swearing just isn't that funny.
|
I didn't see any of them, but I'm going to go with American Carol based upon the jaw-droppingly awful trailer. Love Guru and Disaster Movie looked horrible as well. Has Dane Cook appeared in any films this year? If so, add those to the list.
|
Dane Cook did star in My Best Friend's Girl, which at least had nudity going for it.
I'm going with The Love Guru. Spartans/Disaster/Superhero (was that actually this year?) may have all been awful, but they're awful in the way that you knew they would be going in and they're mercifully short. But Love Guru was meant to be Mike Meyer's return, the man who was once at the top of the comedic heap. Watch Wayne's World, then Austin Powers, then Love Guru. Doesn't it hurt just a little bit more to watch Love Guru knowing what Mike Meyers once was and what he could have been had he not fallen into a complete creative rut? Everyone involved in the other movies are just picking up a paycheck, but Meyers really put his heart and soul into Love Guru. Looked at in that light, I think Love Guru is a monumental failure, because it's a nail in the coffin of a once great comedian. |
Worst, most dissapointing, most over rated
The worst movie was Love Guru. Simply unwatchable.
The most dissapointing was Tropic Thunder, all those actors and budget and it was mostly a parody of actors and war movies. But looks like they concentrated mostly in dialogue than it actually making scenes that were funny. (who even thought that having Matther McConaughey rant about Tivo at the beginning and the end of a movie was funny, Tom Cruise's role made an impact because he ditched his good looks and acted weird but it was not funny, and etc) The most over rated was Forgetting Sarah Marshall. I enjoyed it but Jude Apatow's movies are too slow to make you laugh. Funny scene followed by 10 dramatic scenes, followed by a funny scene. Qualifies more as a dramedy than a comedy. But I did enjoy it though, just not as good as advertised. |

Those movies were at least watchable, although bad indeed. But movies like Love Guru and meet the Spartans cannot be watched without the help of the fast forward button. |

Dialogue alone does not make a movie really really funny , you need physical comedy combined with funny dialogue to make a movie really funny. And Jude Apatow movies are mostly based in dialogue, curses, and drama. |
The Love Guru, easily.
I'm appalled that Pineapple Express and Tropic Thunder were mentioned... i think they are fighting for the BEST. |
I can't believe two things in this thread...
1. It took 34 posts until the worst comedy I saw this year was posted (You Don't Mess With The Zohan). 2. That this many people on the forum actually watched The Love Guru. = J |
I don't watch movies I know I will despise (spoof movies and anything involving Dane Cook, I'm looking square at you...) That having been said, I have not seen LOVE GURU yet (I'll give it a chance, everytime the masses positively revolt against a comedy, I end up loving it. I think I'm one of 3 people in the world who positively *LOVE* "Ishtar") so I will have to say the worst comedy I saw in 2008 was the Harold & Kumar sequel.
It's not like the first one was exactly highbrow, but the first 45 minutes of it made me laugh HARD ("Battleshits", indeed...). I barely cracked a smile in the sequel. God I hate antisemitism. |

And I'll say the same to you about naming "Hamlet 2" as one of 2008 worst comedies. No way. It's right up there with "Marshall" and "Thunder" as one of the year's best. And even if you hated it, it does not deserve to placed in the same league as those "Disaster Movie" spoof type films. |
I see it diffrently. If you thought any three of those movies were going to have any entertainment value going in you need your head checked. To me whats worse is walking into a movie fully expecting to be entertained, and not a laugh is to be found. For me that was Tropic Thunder. I havent been that dissapointed in a comedy in awhile. It was bad.
