He really should have done this right after Walk the Line so he could go out on top.

He should concentrate on growing a mustache.

So I guess I'm the only one that is picking up on how fake this all seems. Especially Casey Afflact's phoned in reaction. I'm sure in a few weeks we'll be hearing about Joaquin's new project playing some character based on these actions.

Just finally watched this and I'm casting my vote for total BS. Here's a bit of insider info, Joaquin likes to fuck with reporters; always has. He hates doing interviews.

I'm just glad he announced it. Otherwise I might not have noticed for 10 or so years and I would be forced to start a "Whatever happened to.." thread.

If true, this would be his last film.

As everyone else, he'll be back.

Jay-Z has taught us, that when someone says "retire," what they really mean is 2-year vacation.

Something tells me he is on River's path. I hope someone steps in and helps out. He doesn't look well. He was out of his mind the last time he was on Conan. I love his work.

Wow. How stoned is Joaquin Phoenix these days? A rapper? Actually, this could be good. You know as soon as his first record bombs where he's headed...

I was gonna say he'll be calling up Ridley Scott looking to make Gladiator 2 or capitalize on some other notoriety he's had in film, but this whole thing being b.s. sounds more likely to me now. No way he can be serious about this.

Re: Joaquin Phoenix to retire from acting.

I've been making rap music for 11 years & I just can't see Joaquin Phoenix as a rapper.

The only thing worse than actors who try to sing are actors who try to rap.

Re: Joaquin Phoenix to retire from acting.

I am convinced this is all an elaborate hoax. Apparently Casey Affleck is directing a documentary about Joaquin's new "career path". I honestly can't watch the videos of him attempting to rap and think it is something he is seriously doing.
