An involving, ultimately touching romantic drama about a young man's struggle deciding between the two women in his life, "Two Lovers" reps a welcome change of pace for director James Gray from his run of crime mellers.

If anyone is interested, during "The Trailer Show" on HDNet, they had a preview for this. It will be debuting on HDNet Movies February 11th before it hits theaters.

It's playing on HD Movies on Demand (Time Warner) right now for 10 dollars. Pretty good movie. I watched it today. Joaquin Phoenix is one of the best young working actors today. I really hope he doesn't retire....It's basically a complex touching love story. Nothing amazing, but highly entertaining, especially since I live in Brooklyn. Gray is probably my favorite NYC director, more than Woody Allen or Scorsese...It was also nice to see Paltrow in a leading role. I feel like she hasn't starred in a film since Shallow Hal...

I saw this movie on HDNET last night.
I thought it was pretty good but I assume most critics probably won't like it.
A good movie for Winter and staying at home.
did anyone find the Gwyneth Paltrow character unlikable?
I felt for Joaquins character and I hope he does not retire since he makes good movies.

Wait, Joaquin Phoenix the RAPPER? Seeing how difficult the foray into acting is for most rappers, I don't hold high hopes for this one.

I know she was unlikable but did you believe she would date a guy like Bratt who was bald and looked ordinary?

Looks worthwhile to me, though I'll wait until the DVD is released.
An involving, ultimately touching romantic drama about a young man's struggle deciding between the two women in his life, "Two Lovers" reps a welcome change of pace for director James Gray from his run of crime mellers. Well acted by Joaquin Phoenix, Gwyneth Paltrow and Vinessa Shaw, this very New York tale is old-fashioned in good ways that have to do with solid storytelling, craftsmanship and emotional acuity.

Terrible film. The two lead characters were so....."simple". I think they probably should have cast two actors in their early 20's or even younger. Because the dialogue between them were like two undereducated people. Seriously. And so many unbelievable scenes. Paltrow escaping an argument with her "dad" to one floor below in a building both her and Phoenix lived in. Running into Phoenix for the first time. Followed by an extremely stupid and awkward introduction. Then, Phoenix invites her into his apartment to "get away" for a few minutes. Which she does. The stupid dialogue continues. Paltrow sees a few stacks of books in the apartment to which she asks "You're not one of those READERS, are you!?" Ugh. They become instant BFF's from the get go. In a later scene, Paltrow invites Phoenix to go to dinner with her and her older married lover. Begs him actually. To get his take on the situation. Asking him in the next scene, "So, do you think he'll leave his wife for me?". Good cast, but an awful movie.

I saw a theater marquee for this in Minneapolis last week that read "Joaquin Phoenix is NOT Crispin Glover in Two Lovers".
