What's with all these housewives writing long-ass bestsellers anyway? Meyer, Rowling, etc? I thought being a stay-at-home mom was the "hardest job in the world"?

I just saw the full trailer for this. Vampires running around in the sunlight, jumping around in trees a la Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. My crew and I are seriously considering seeing this and putting together a full "Rocky Horror/MS2TK" script together.

Apparently, a whole lot of hot college girls are going to the midnight premiere of this in my neck of the woods. Which means my newly divorced ass will be going as well.

Most definitely. The jailbait should be at home in bed at midnight due to the citywide curfew. At least, that's what I'm praying for anyway.

Why did you have to go and ruin it for me, sir.

Read the first book in the series, which wasn't too bad.

I'll be seeing this with one of my friends from work. She's read the entire series last time I checked.

Definitely looking forward to the amount of screen time Ashley Greene gets

I'm going to come right out and say it: I don't understand people's obsession with these books. If I was a fan of the books like everyone else who is and saw the trailers, I would be boycotting this release. It doesn't even resemble anything remotely great.

It is even more ironic that this is being released by Summit Entertainment. This will become their top money maker of all time without defeat. What makes this sad, two of the film they have released this year (Penelope and Sex Drive) were actually a lot better than they were given credit for. If Catherine Hardwicke actually pulls a miracle, then maybe my opinion will change.

But like others have said, the box office chances wil be very interesting. Even if it makes big numbers opening weekend, I expect a big 60% drop in the second. So far, most big new releases have fallen into this trap, and something tells me that the readers of these books will be outraged just like they were when The Bonfire of the Vanities came out back in 1990. The readers all have their own vision of how the book should be adapted, and if you don't appease them, you will have upset moviegoers one way or the other.

This movie will make back its entire budget on opening weekend, so it doesn't really matter what it drops in future weekends. IMDB lists the budget as only $37 million, which I fully believe. There are no big stars and the special effects aren't over the top (there's no spaceships or huge explosions, in other words).

For some reason this movie reminds me a bit of The Lost Boys. Anyone else?

Eh, maybe a little. Personally, I think it look likes Buffy the Vampire Slayer but without all that pesky wit and its penchant for being genuinely moving at times, and so do many others I'm sure. I flipped through the first book at a Books A Million one day out of curiosity (I was at the tail end of high school and nearly all my friends couldn't shut up about it). After about the 50th time I saw the phrase "Edward was beautiful" I nearly went to the front desk and demanded why they were carrying this crap in a book store.

I'll still see it though, just to review it for my college paper.

My wife and her friends (all Mormon housewives) are crazy about these books. They have read and reread all of the books multiple times. They had a "Breaking Dawn" party when the book came out and there were fights between those who liked this tie up and who didn't.

It was funny to sit on the sidelines and watch.

They are all excited for the movie and are all going together this weekend to see it and then go out to dinner/lunch and talk about it.

I thought that this was only a Mormon fad, but it's not. There were alot of kids this Halloween in costume as a character from Twilight. I been part of a group doing design workshops for high school students and there were always girls talking about Twilight and some had some homemade shirts... all of them were anxiously anticipating the release of the film.

Its a fun little fad... from my POV. But my wife and her friends are die hards and can't wait.

... and from what I ca figure the DVD/BD will be out in time for her b-day. That makes my gift to her easy.

It doesn't even look that compelling.

Honestly, the movie might make the books make more sense. Very little exposition in the first book.

The story is a stupid 'Vampire 90210'. The books are poorly-written garbage and, judging from the trailer of this new movie, I don't see the films being much more than disposable, teenage garbage either.

This is one of the stupidest culture phenomenons to occur in recent years, and that is saying a fuck of a whole lot.

Yeah the trailer looks pretty crappy... I mean the book was mildly amusing, but doubt Ill see this as the wife has no interest. Interesting enough I didnt know Penelope and Sex Drive were the other 2 realeases by Summit. I was enteretained by both those films. But doesnt look like they will go 3 for 3 for me.

This will be one of their rare profitable movies then.
