For the past day I thought you guys were talking about Vantage Point and I kept wondering where you were getting that from.
Also, there's two characters called Tao and Vu (but sounds like Tzu in the trailer). I thought they might be references to Taoism and Art of War but I might be wrong.

Variety review:
At 78, perhaps the only actor in the history of American cinema to convincingly kick the butt of a guy 60 years his junior, the hard-headed, snarly mouthed Clint Eastwood of the 1970s comes growling back to life in "Gran Torino." Centered on a cantankerous curmudgeon who can fairly be described as Archie Bunker fully loaded (with beer and guns), the actor-director's second release of the season is his most stripped-down, unadorned picture in many a year, even as it continues his long preoccupation with race in American society. Highlighted by the star's vastly entertaining performance, this funny, broad but ultimately serious-minded drama about an old-timer driven to put things right in his deteriorating neighborhood looks to be a big audience-pleaser with mainstream viewers of all ages.

Haven't seen it yet but I live in the Detroit area and as far as I know there are no Hmong areas here. Remember Bird On A Wire years ago had a scene in Detroit's Chinatown. Except Detroit didn't have a Chinatown. It also had the leads take a ferry from Detroit to Wisconsin.

I watched it, and good lord what a movie. I can't even totally explain why I enjoyed it so much, but it was just such a great, easy, smooth watch. This film has that feel to it that I am never able to fully explain. Each scene built to the next, each moment kept my interest, and Eastwood was just so much fun to watch.
If this does indeed end up being his final acting performance on screen, the it was just about an absolutely perfect way to end his legendary acting career.
I highly recommend this movie, 9/10.

I didn't like it, but then again, I'm not the biggest Eastwood fan. I mean, of his newer stuff of course.
Really? I kept waitin' for him to say "Bah, Humbug!" Far too predictable. The entire story is, I mean. Pretty much everything that happened, I saw coming. And I'm not that bright. I thought Ahney Her (The girl who played "Sue") was really good though.

Wow, 5/5 for me. I laughed and cried.
I agree with Brent L, it was just so smooth. No wasted scenes, no extra characters, no extra dialog, just a great story being told by a masterful director. There is no doubt, Clint is one of the best Actor/Directors there is/was.
If this is the last of Eastwood on screen, he went out on a high note. I salute you sir.

I'm tired of limited release movies getting advertised like its a wide release. I wanted to watch this this afternoon so bad, but its not playing anywhere near me.

Caught a sneak preview tonight. Very well executed film with a neatly packaged story. If anything, it's a bit too textbook-filmmaking, but that's a minor quibble.
Eastwood's performance was very nuanced; even though we all know his cranky old man character will warm up as the film progresses, he is still able to make it very natural, very believable.
4/5
